Previous reports have suggested that both the endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress and cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase-stimulator of interferon genes pathways contribute to the progression of chronic kidney disease; however, the relationship between these 2 pathways in kidney injury has not been fully elucidated. Andrade-Silva et al. revealed that the cyclic guanosine monophosphate-adenosine monophosphate synthase-stimulator of interferon genes pathway can enhance ER stress through the protein kinase R-like ER kinase (PERK)-mediated signaling cascade in kidney tubular epithelial cells and sequentially augment fibrosis during kidney injury.

Endometriosis is described as the proliferation of endometrial tissue outside of the uterus. This most frequently occurs within the pelvis and is a common cause of chronic pelvic pain in women of reproductive age. Rarely, endometriosis can manifest outside of the pelvis and can uncommonly involve the musculoskeletal and peripheral nervous systems.

Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) experience chronic intermittent hypoxia (CIH). OSA patients and CIH-treated rodents exhibit overactive sympathetic nervous system and hypertension, mediated through hyperactive carotid body (CB) chemoreflex. Activation of olfactory receptor 78 (Olfr78) by hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is implicated in CB activation and sympathetic nerve responses to CIH, but the downstream signaling pathways remain unknown.

The athlete's paradox phenomenon involves the accumulation of intramuscular triglycerides (IMTG) in both insulin-resistant and insulin-sensitive endurance athletes. Nevertheless, a complete understanding of this phenomenon is yet to be achieved. Recent research indicates that lactate, a common byproduct of physical activity, may increase the accumulation of IMTG in skeletal muscle.
