The adsorption of two classes of carboxylic ligands (i.e., aliphatic and aromatic small molecules), onto α-alumina nanoparticles was investigated. A new methodology was used whereby two molecules were simultaneously equilibrated with the inorganic material. A two-dimensional representation of the adsorption of the two complexing molecules enables us to differentiate between pairs of ligands with (i) independent adsorption on different sites of the alumina particles, (ii) competing adsorption on the same sites, or (iii) a mix thereof. Both the highest affinity ligands (tetracarboxylic acid, citric acid, and tiron), and the way they compete with lower affinity ligands have been identified. The combination of carbon skeleton and complexing groups required to produce the ligand of highest affinity at pH 5 has been recognized. In particular, the role of the OH in the α position of a carboxylic group and the role of the distance between two carboxylic groups are emphasized.

Molecular simulations offer valuable insights into thermosetting polymers' microstructures and interactions with small molecules, aiding in the development of advanced materials. In this study, we design two cyanate resin models featuring monomers of different sizes and employ a previously developed method to generate crosslinked structures. We then analyze their crosslinking processes and physicochemical properties.

In Slovakia, there are a number of contaminated sites that have occurred due to intensive mining, mineral processing, metallurgical activities, chemical industry, fossil fuel combustion, and industrial agriculture in the past. This paper summarizes the occurrence, chemistry, toxicity, and mineralogy of arsenic species related to soil and water contamination in Slovakia. Four main localities with arsenic exposure were identified.

To effectively control food safety risks caused by nitroimidazoles (NDZs), a sensitive detection method was established on the basis of a newly-developed solid-phase extraction (SPE) sorbent named as Phl-TBM that is a porous polymer prepared by crosslinking natural phloretin with (2,4,6-tris(bromomethyl)mesitylene. The Phl-TBM presented outstanding NDZs adsorption capacity, which can be ascribed to its well-developed porosity and multiple hydrogen bonding sites. With Phl-TBM as SPE sorbent, NDZs were successfully isolated and enriched from lake water, Basa fish, and beef before being assayed by high-performance liquid chromatography-diode array detector.

Urban mining of precious metals from electronic waste (e-waste) offers a dual advantage by addressing solid waste management challenges and supplying high-value metals for diverse applications. However, traditional extraction methods generally suffer from poor selectivity and limited capacity in complex acidic leachate. Herein, we present a sulfhydryl-functionalized zirconium-based metal-organic framework (Zr-MSA-AA) as a recyclable and highly selective adsorbent for efficient gold recovery.

In this study, a novel synthesis approach was employed to create the KIT-6/TiO photocatalyst with different ratios of Si/Ti. The results of the X-ray diffraction revealed that incorporating TiO with the anatase phase maintained the mesoporous structure of KIT-6 (Korean Institute of Technology 6). The scanning electron microscope and transmission electron microscope images exhibited unobstructed mesopores, validating their anchoring within the internal structure of the support.
