Background: Patients showed a different response following intravenous midazolam injection. Some children showed irritability or were not sedated by midazolam. We hypothesized that there may be genetic variations of the MDR1 gene, based on the response to midazolam.
Methods: One hundred and ninety-three pediatric patients were recruited in this study. Midazolam (0.1 mg/kg) was injected intravenously before surgery. Anxiety score (activity, vocalizations, emotional expressivity, state of apparent arousal) was checked before and 5 minutes after midazolam injection. In addition, other manifestations after midazolam injection were recorded. After anesthesia, 2 ml of blood was sampled. Children were genotyped MDR1. Haplotype was analyzed using the software package PHASE, version 2.0.
Results: The observed frequencies of MDR1 haplotype of TTT, TGC, CAC, CGC were 0.334, 0.205, 0.182 and 0.225, respectively. There was no significant correlation between the response of midazolam and the MDR1 haplotype of TTT, TGC, CAC or CGC (P = 0.98).
Conclusions: Genotyping of MDR1 may not be related to the response of midazolam in children.

Introduction: Use of veno-arterial extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (VA-ECMO) is still in the focus of research, in which pigs are commonly involved. During VA-ECMO, cardiovascular parameters are artificially manipulated and therefore not reliable indicators of nociception. Nociceptive withdrawal reflex (NWR) thresholds can be a suitable alternative in such a context.

Background: Behavioral problems in children contribute significantly to non-compliance and lack of cooperation with dentists. This study aimed to assess the impact of parenting styles on the success of conscious sedation with midazolam in uncooperative children aged 4 to 6 years.
Methods: This short-term longitudinal study included ninety-six children aged 4-6 years who were classified as uncooperative according to the Frankl Behavior Rating Scale (Frankl I, II), requiring pulp treatment and Stainless-Steel Crown (SSC) restoration.

This study aimed to examine the effect of thiopental monotherapy as well as its combination with different agents used in anesthesia induction, on cardiac function and redox state of rats with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). A total of 40 male rats were used in this study and randomly divided into five groups: thiopental (TIO), fentanyl + thiopental (FEN + TIO), remifentanil + thiopental (REM + TIO), midazolam + thiopental (MID + TIO), and dexmedetomidine + thiopental (DEX + TIO). Animals were anesthetized by intraperitoneal injection of thiopental 85 mg/kg, fentanyl 0.
