Objectives: There are limited clinical data revealing the relationship between mitral annular calcification (MAC) and systemic inflammation. The goal of the present study was to compare high-sensitivity C-reactive protein (hs-CRP) levels in patients with and without MAC and investigate the relationship between MAC and hs-CRP.
Methods: One hundred patients with MAC who underwent transthoracic echocardiography (TTE) and 100 age-matched controls without MAC who underwent TTE were included in our study. Hs-CRP levels were compared between groups.
Results: Prevalence of female gender, hypertension, and coronary artery disease were significantly higher in the MAC group than in the control group (64% versus 45%, P = 0.007, 42% versus 28%, P = 0.03 and 37% versus 18%, P = 0.003, resp.). On multivariate analysis, age, gender, and coronary artery disease were the only independent predictors of MAC. The levels of hs-CRP were higher in the MAC group than in the control group (2.02 ± 0.35 versus 1.43 ± 0.47 mg/dl, P < 0.001). This increase in hs-CRP levels in the MAC group persisted in patients without hypertension, coronary artery disease, and in male patients when compared to the control group.
Conclusions: Our study demonstrated that hs-CRP, which is a sensitive marker of systemic inflammation, increased in patients with MAC.

To evaluate the clinical utility of PCT, CRP, IL-6, NLR, and TyG index in improving the early diagnosis and severity assessment of acute pancreatitis (AP). This retrospective study included 137 AP patients and 30 healthy controls from Hunan Provincial People's Hospital (January 2021-September 2023). Univariate and multivariate logistic regression analyses assessed the associations between biomarkers and severe acute pancreatitis (SAP).

Objective: To investigate the clinical utility of novel of new hematological markers in the preoperative diagnosis of periprosthetic joint infection (PJI).
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on a total of 149 patients who underwent revision of total hip arthroplasty (THA) or total knee arthroplasty (TKA) at a single center between January 2016 and June 2022, including 63 males and 86 females, aged from 47 to 93 years old with an average of (69.5±11.

Objective: To investigate the clinical efficacy of thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery with nickel-titanium shape memory alloy wrap bone plate versus rib periosteal internal fixation in patients with multiple rib fractures (MRF) and flail chest.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was performed on 100 patients with MRF and flail chest treated with thoracoscopic minimally invasive surgery and internal fixation with rib fracture preservation between January 2019 and December 2022, including 54 males and 46 females, aged from 20 to 65 years old, with an average age of (38.0±18.

Background: White matter damage is closely associated with cognitive and psychiatric symptoms and is prevalent in cerebral small vessel disease (CSVD); although the pathophysiological mechanisms involved in CSVD remain elusive, inflammation plays a crucial role. We sought to investigate the relationship between systemic inflammation markers and imaging markers of CVSD, namely white matter hyperintensity (WMH) and microstructural injury.
Methods: We conducted a study involving both cross-sectional and longitudinal data from the UK Biobank Cohort.

Background: While guidelines suggest administering antibiotics 12 to 18 hours after the rupture of membranes in term premature rupture of membranes (PROM) women, in practice, clinicians tend to initiate prophylactic antibiotics as soon as possible to avoid risk of infection.
Objective: This study aimed to assess whether early administration of prophylactic antibiotics for term premature rupture of membranes reduces the incidence of maternal and neonatal infections.
Study Design: This multi-center, prospective cohort study included women with term premature rupture of membranes.
