The objective of this study was to evaluate which macroinvertebrate and deposited sediment metrics are best for determining effects of excessive sedimentation on stream integrity. Fifteen instream sediment metrics, with the strongest relationship to land cover, were compared to riffle macroinvertebrate metrics in streams ranging across a gradient of land disturbance. Six deposited sediment metrics were strongly related to the relative abundance of Ephemeroptera, Plecoptera and Trichoptera and six were strongly related to the modified family biotic index (MFBI). Few functional feeding groups and habit groups were significantly related to deposited sediment, and this may be related to the focus on riffle, rather than reach-wide macroinvertebrates, as reach-wide sediment metrics were more closely related to human land use. Our results suggest that the coarse-level deposited sediment metric, visual estimate of fines, and the coarse-level biological index, MFBI, may be useful in biomonitoring efforts aimed at determining the impact of anthropogenic sedimentation on stream biotic integrity.

The Great Rann of Kachchh is a sabkha terrain with a thick succession of Quaternary to Late Holocene sediments, deposited during high sea level after the Last Glacial Maxima. Geomorphologically, the Great Rann of Kachchh is subdivided into Bet Zone, Linear Trench Zone, Great Barren Zone, and Banni Plain. The Bet zone is a slightly elevated flat surface comprising a complex network of bets and interbet channels-the geomorphic entities developed as complex interplay of sea level and coseismic tectonic activity during the Holocene.

Microplastics (MPs) are ubiquitous and are increasing globally, but there is limited information available on their presence in freshwater ecosystems. This research work aims to investigate the abundance, sinking behavior, and risk assessment of MPs in the freshwater River Basantar, Jammu & Kashmir, India. Microplastic abundance in sediments was recorded in the range of 1-6 items g, with a mean abundance of 3 ± 1.

The main objective of this paper is to analyze, through a unique large-scale modeling facility, the RDS wash-off under various scenarios of intense rainfall and high RDS masses. A 1:1 scale physical modeling facility was used to allow precise measurement of the RDS wash-off phenomenon under two different rainfall intensities (30/50 mm/h) and three initial RDS masses (100/150/200 g/m). The accumulated and discharged masses of RDS in the different components of the modeling facility (roadway/RW, gully pot/GP and manhole/MH) were collected at the end of the wash-off simulations.

Towards Highly Stable Sn2+ Electrolyte for Aqueous Tin Batteries Using Hydroquinone Antioxidant.

Angew Chem Int Ed Engl

December 2024

Fudan University, Department of Chemistry, Room 223, Laboratory of Advanced Materials Building, Songhu Road 2005, Shanghai, Shanghai, CHINA.

Sn redox chemistry in aqueous acidic electrolyte was characterized with high reversibility and kinetics, which is considered as competitive anode material for aqueous batteries. Unfortunately, divalent Sn2+ is unstable in aqueous electrolyte. It was revealed that Sn2+ is easy to be oxidized to tetravalent Sn4+ by dissolved oxygen and then forms precipitate through hydrolysis process, leading to serious performance decay.

New Re-Os Geochronological Data from the Upper Doushantuo Formation: Age Constraint on the Shuram Excursion and Implication for the Ediacaran Fluctuated Continental Weathering.

Hunan Provincial Key Laboratory of Geochemical Processes and Resource Environmental Effects, Changsha, Hunan 410014, China.

The largest negative carbon-isotope excursion in geological history has been reported by several studies of the upper Doushantuo Formation of South China, which has been correlated to the middle Ediacaran-Shuram excursion (SE). Due to a scarcity of radiometric age constraints on the excursion in South China, however, global correlations and comparisons of this event remain a debate. Here, we present Re-Os and carbon isotope data on organic-rich sediments obtained from a drill-core sample in the Chengkou area, the northeastern margin of the Yangtze Platform, and South China.
