Precise timing of sound is crucial in music for both performing and listening. Indeed, listening to rhythmic sound sequences activates not only the auditory system but also the sensorimotor system. Previously, we showed the significance of neural beta-band oscillations (15-30 Hz) for the timing processing that involves such auditory-motor coordination. Thus, we hypothesized that motor rehabilitation training incorporating music playing will stimulate and enhance auditory-motor interaction in stroke patients. We examined three chronic patients who received Music-Supported Therapy following the protocols practiced by Schneider. Neuromagnetic beta-band activity was remarkably alike during passive listening to a metronome and during finger tapping, with or without the metronome, for either the paretic or nonparetic hand, suggesting a shared mechanism of the beta modulation. In the listening task, the magnitude of the beta decrease after the tone onset was more pronounced at the posttraining time point and was accompanied by improved arm and hand skills. The present case data give insight into the neural underpinnings of rehabilitation with music making and rhythmic auditory stimulation.

Objective: This study explores the whole-course neuromagnetic activity changes in childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) using multifrequency magnetoencephalogram (MEG) analysis. We aim to uncover the underlying neurophysiological mechanisms and identify functional signal targets with potential clinical applications.
Methods: We recruited 37 drug-naive children with CAE and collected magnetoencephalography (MEG) data from 62 seizures and interictal periods using a CTF-275 channel MEG system.

Objective: To investigate cortical oscillations during a sentence completion task (SC) using magnetoencephalography (MEG), focusing on the semantic control network (SCN), its leftward asymmetry, and the effects of semantic control load.
Methods: Twenty right-handed adults underwent MEG while performing SC, consisting of low cloze (LC: multiple responses) and high cloze (HC: single response) stimuli. Spectrotemporal power modulations as event-related synchronizations (ERS) and desynchronizations (ERD) were analyzed: first, at the whole-brain level; second, in key SCN regions, posterior middle/inferior temporal gyri (pMTG/ITG) and inferior frontal gyri (IFG), under different semantic control loads.

Purpose: The electrophysiological characterization of resting state oscillatory functional connectivity within the default mode network (DMN) during interictal periods in childhood absence epilepsy (CAE) remains unclear. Using magnetoencephalographic (MEG) recordings, this study investigated how the connectivity within the DMN was altered in CAE.
Methods: Using a cross-sectional design, we analyzed MEG data from 33 children newly diagnosed with CAE and 26 controls matched for age and sex.

The present study performed a brain-wide network analysis of resting-state magnetoencephalograms recorded from 53 healthy participants to visualize elaborate brain maps of phase- and amplitude-derived graph-theory metrics at different frequencies. To achieve this, we conducted a vertex-wise computation of threshold-independent graph metrics by combining proportional thresholding and a conjunction analysis and applied them to a correlation analysis of age and brain networks. Source power showed a frequency-dependent cortical distribution.

Background And Hypothesis: We used the uniquely high combined spatial and temporal resolution of magnetoencephalography to characterize working memory (WM)-related modulation of beta band activity in neuroleptic-free patients with schizophrenia in comparison to a large sample of performance-matched healthy controls. We also tested for effects of antipsychotic medication on identified differences in these same patients.
Study Design: Inpatients with schizophrenia (n = 21) or psychotic disorder not otherwise specified (n = 4) completed N-back and control tasks during magnetoencephalography while on placebo and during antipsychotic medication treatment, in a blinded, randomized, counterbalanced manner.
