To obtain a saturated blue phosphorescent material with a good color purity, we have synthesized the new blue emitting iridium complexes with 2, 6-difluoro-3-(4-methylpyridin-2-yl)pyridine (4-Me-dfpypy) as a main ligand. We expected that the LUMO energy levels of the complex might increase upon introduction of an electron donating group such as a methyl group to the pyridyl moieties of the ligand, leading to a wide energy gap of the complex to give the saturated blue emission. We have also introduced a variety of the ancillary ligands to the iridium center to compare the effect of the ancillary ligards on the emission of their complexes. The resulting iridium complexes, Ir(4-Me-dfpypy)3, Ir(4-Me-dfpypy)2(acac), Ir(4-Me-dfpypy)2(pic) and Ir(4-Me-dfpypy)2(trzl-CH3) where acac, pic, and trzl-CH3 represent acetylacetonate, picolinate, and 2-(5-methyl-2H-1,2,4-triazol-3-yl) pyridinate, respectively exhibited the blue emission at 451, 447, 440 and 425 nm in CH2Cl2 solution. The organic light emitting device (OLED) employing homoleptic Ir(4-Me-dfpypy), as the blue dopant was prepared and their electroluminescence was investigated. Ir(4-Me-dfpypy)3 exhibited the blue emission of CIE coordinates (0.22, 0.32).

Background: Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is widely used to treat carotid artery stenosis (CAS). However, the effects of CEA on unilateral CAS-induced cognitive impairment and the underlying mechanism remain poorly understood.

Methods And Results: Thirteen patients diagnosed with unilateral severe CAS underwent pre- and post-CEA assessments, including fluoro-2-deoxy-d-glucose positron emission tomography/magnetic resonance imaging, cognitive assessments, and routine blood tests before and after CEA.

In vivo three-photon fluorescence imaging of mouse brain vasculature labeled by Evans blue excited at the NIR-III window.

Multiphoton fluorescence microscopy (MFM), renowned for its noninvasiveness and high spatiotemporal resolution, is extensively applied in brain structure imaging in vivo. Three-photon fluorescence (3PF) imaging, excited at the NIR-III window, can penetrate the deepest mouse cerebrovascular. Evans blue, a substance known for its low toxicity, high water solubility, and resistance to metabolism, is frequently employed to assess blood-brain barrier (BBB) permeability.

Zebrafish serve as a pivotal model for bioimaging and toxicity assessments; however, the toxicity of banana peel-derived carbon dots in zebrafish has not been previously reported. The aim of this study was to assess the toxicity of carbon dots derived from banana peel in zebrafish, focusing on two types prepared through hydrothermal and pyrolysis methods. Banana peels were synthesized using hydrothermal and pyrolysis techniques and then compared for characteristics, bioimaging ability, and toxicity in zebrafish as an animal model.

The hydrothermal synthesis is presented of copper-doped carbon dots (Cu-CDs) from citric acid, urea, and copper chloride, resulting in blue-fluorescent particles with stable emission at 438 nm when excited at 340 nm. Through comprehensive spectroscopic and microscopic characterization (FTIR, XPS, UV, and HRTEM), the Cu-CDs demonstrated remarkable stability across varying pH levels, ionic strengths, temperatures, and UV exposure. Notably, Cu-CDs exhibit ultra-sensitive and selective detection of hexavalent chromium [Cr(VI)] ions in aqueous environments driven by fluorescence quenching.

In this work, we have explored the metal ion sensing properties of two bisbenzimidazole-based fluorescent probes, that differ in their conformational flexibility, in an aqueous medium. The compound with a flexible methyl spacer (1) experienced blue shifts in its absorption and emission maxima (along with a turn-off response) upon the addition of Hg ions. On the contrary, the compound with a relatively rigid structure (2) showed red shifts in both its absorption and emission maxima (along with a turn-off response) when treated with Hg under similar conditions.
