The authors present the results of laboratory and clinical analysis of vinyl siloxane polymer-based compositions, Pt catalyzer-hardened. Animal experiments have demonstrated high biologic inertness of the implantation material, inducing virtually no irritation of the adjacent tissues. These results confirm the possibility of clinical use of this new material.

The study aimed to develop a superhydrophobic coating on the aluminium alloy 2024-T3 surface. The desired surface roughness and low surface energy were achieved with SiO nanoparticles, synthesised via the Stöber method and modified with alkyl silane (AS) or perfluoroalkyl silane (FAS). To enhance particle adhesion to the alloy substrate, nanoparticles were incorporated into a hybrid sol-gel coating composed of tetraethyl orthosilicate, methyl methacrylate, and 3-methacryloxypropyl trimethoxysilane.

A Reusable Capillary Flow-Driven Microfluidic System for Abscisic Acid Detection Using a Competitive Immunoassay.

Sensors (Basel)

Point-of-care (PoC) devices offer a promising solution for fast, portable, and easy-to-use diagnostics. These characteristics are particularly relevant in agrifood fields like viticulture where the early detection of plant stresses is crucial to crop yield. Microfluidics, with its low reagent volume requirements, is well-suited for such applications.

This work describes the synthesis of ordered 3D siloxane-silsesquioxane reticular materials with silicate D4R cubes (SiO), harvested from a sacrificial tetrabutylammonium cyclosilicate hydrate (TBA-CySH) precursor, interlinked with octyl and dicyclopentyl (Cp) hydrocarbon functionalities in a one-step synthesis with organodichlorosilanes. Advanced solid-state NMR spectroscopy allowed us to unravel the molecular order of the nodes and their interconnection by the silicone linkers. In the case of octyl-methyl silicone linkers, changing the silane-to-silicate ratio in the synthesis allowed for tuning the length of the linker between the nodes.

Multilayered organosiloxane films with self-healing ability converted from block copolymer nanocomposites.

Chem Commun (Camb)

January 2025

Self-healable, multilayered organosiloxane films were prepared thermal conversion of lamellar organosiloxane films containing poly(ethylene oxide)-polydimethylsiloxane-poly(ethylene oxide) block copolymers. The incorporation of silanolate groups enabled crack healing through dynamic siloxane equilibration. The enhanced hardness and suppressed cyclic siloxane formation resulting from the multilayered structure exhibit potential for practical applications.
