We systematically investigate supercontinuum generation using three-dimensional numerical simulations of nonlinear femtosecond pulse propagation in hollow-core fibers (HCF) at different pump wavelengths ranging from 400 nm to 2 μm. A general design strategy for HCF compressors is presented, maximizing the spectral broadening while preserving high beam quality for given pump pulse energy, duration and wavelength. We show close fitting of the modeled results with simple analytical formulas, enabling the construction of high-energy pulse compressors at the wavelength range of interest. Based on the presented wavelength scaling study, we propose an orthogonally polarized two-color pumping scheme in a single HCF compressor for the coherent synthesis of the electric fields in the sub-cycle regime with mJ level energies.

Fine tuning enzyme activity assays for monitoring the enzymatic hydrolysis of PET.

Sci Rep

January 2025

Enzymology and Applied Biocatalysis Research Center, Faculty of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Babeș-Bolyai University, Arany János Street 11, 400028, Cluj-Napoca, Romania.

Efficient monitoring of the enzymatic PET-hydrolysis is crucial for developing novel plastic-degrading biocatalysts. Herein, we aimed to upgrade in terms of accuracy the analytical methods useful for monitoring enzymatic PET-degradation. For the HPLC-based assessment, the incorporation of an internal standard within the analytic procedure enabled a more accurate quantification of the overall TPA content and the assessment of molar distributions and relative content of each aromatic degradation product.

Purpose: To compare the assessment of clinically relevant retinal and choroidal lesions as well as optic nerve pathologies using a novel three-wavelength ultra-widefield (UWF) scanning laser ophthalmoscope with established retinal imaging techniques for ophthalmoscopic imaging.

Methods: Eighty eyes with a variety of retinal and choroidal lesions were assessed on the same time point using Topcon color fundus photography (CFP) montage, Optos red/green (RG), Heidelberg SPECTRALIS MultiColor 55-color montage (MCI), and novel Optos red/green/blue (RGB). Paired images of the optic nerve, retinal, or choroidal lesions were initially diagnosed based on CFP imaging.

The present study quantified simultaneous determination of the active components included in Valzomix HCT tablets are hydrochlorothiazide (HCT), valsartan (VAL), and amlodipine (AML). Two chemometric methods-continuous wavelet transform (CWT) and ratio subtraction (RS)-along with a rapid and effective spectrophotometric approach-which does not require preparatory separation-were used to do the analysis. The CWT approach applied the zero-crossing method to analyze several wavelet families and selected the Daubechies 2, Symlet 2, and Biorthogonal 1.

In the last decade, substantial progress has been made to improve the performance of optical gyroscopes for inertial navigation applications in terms of critical parameters such as bias stability, scale factor stability, and angular random walk (ARW). Specifically, resonant fiber optic gyroscopes (RFOGs) have emerged as a viable alternative to widely popular interferometric fiber optic gyroscopes (IFOGs). In a conventional RFOG, a single-wavelength laser source is used to generate counter-propagating waves in a ring resonator, for which the phase difference is measured in terms of the resonant frequency shift to obtain the rotation rate.

Search of Reflectance Indices for Estimating Photosynthetic Activity of Wheat Plants Under Drought Stress.

Plants (Basel)

December 2024

Department of Biophysics, National Research Lobachevsky, State University of Nizhny Novgorod, 23 Gagarin Avenue, 603022 Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

Global climate change and the associated increasing impact of droughts on crops challenges researchers to rapidly assess plant health on a large scale. Photosynthetic activity is one of the key physiological parameters related to future crop yield. The present study focuses on the search for reflectance parameters for rapid screening of wheat genotypes with respect to photosynthetic activity under drought conditions.
