Four 2,5-bis(5-aryl-3-hexylthiophen-2-yl)thiazolo[5,4-d]thiazole derivatives have been synthesized and thoroughly characterized. The extended aromatic core of the molecules was designed to enhance the charge transport characteristics, and solubilizing hexyl side chains were introduced on the thiophene subunits to enable possible integration of these semiconducting small molecules in printable electronics. Complete elucidation of the chemical structures by detailed one-dimensional/two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy is described, providing interesting input for chemical shift prediction software as well, because limited experimental data on these types of compounds are currently available. Furthermore, theoretical calculations have assisted experimental observations--giving support for the chemical shift assignment and providing a springboard for future screening and predictions--demonstrating the benefits of a coordinated theoretical-experimental approach.

Extrusion-based printing of macroscopic architectures layer-by-layer offers new opportunities for constructing customized electromagnetic interference (EMI) shielding materials. However, current research primarily focuses on improving the printability of material inks by increasing contents and adding various modifiers, controllable construction of ultralight and robust macro-architectures with structural design at both macro- and micro-scales is still challenging. Herein, we develop a graphene oxide foaming ink enriched with air bubbles for direct-ink writing, enabling the creation of macroscopic graphene architectures with arbitrary geometries.

In recent years, carbon-based printable mesoscopic perovskite solar cells (p-MPSCs) without hole transport layers have garnered considerable interest because of their outstanding benefits in terms of stability and cost. However, the use of carbon electrodes instead of hole transport materials and noble metal electrodes leads to energy level mismatch, which limits the power conversion efficiency (PCE) of p-MPSCs. In this work, a molecular doping strategy is proposed employing cyclopentylmethanamine to passivate surface and subsurface crystal defects in perovskite layers while inducing an energy shift toward the p-type in the perovskite region within carbon electrodes.

The objective of this study was to form sorghum protein gels and explore their application in 3D food printing. Sorghum proteins were used to prepare gels with concentrations of 15 %, 20 %, 25 %, 30 %, and 35 % (w/w) in 70 % ethanol. The gels were evaluated for their rheological and textural properties and utilized as bioinks for 3D printing.

Recent developments in pharmacogenetics have emphasised the importance of customised medication, driving interest in technologies like FDM 3D-printing for tailored drug delivery. FDM 3D-printing is a promising technique for the on-demand manufacturing of customised oral dosage forms, providing flexibility in terms of shape and size, dose and drug release profiles. This study investigates the fabrication and characterisation of 3D-printed oral dosage forms using PEO as the primary polymer and PEG 6 K as a plasticiser.

Starch-ferulic acid (FA) composites have been developed for medical and food fields, while little focus is caused on their use in functional products by 3D printing. In this work, dynamic high-pressure microfluidization was employed to treat starch at various concentrations, for preparing modified starch-FA composites. The high-performance liquid chromatography results showed that an increased starch concentration was conducive to a high yield of composite with enhanced binding of FA.
