We developed a facile, one-pot, multistep transformation between glycine imine and exocyclic α,β-unsaturated ketones in reactions catalyzed by chiral phase-transfer catalysts (PTC). A series of polycyclic imines containing three adjacent stereocenters were obtained in good to high yields with high diastereo- and enantioselectivities. Further transformation of the imines could afford N-fused polycyclic compounds with four adjacent stereocenters.

The electrochemically mediated cyanation/annulation process with in situ cyanide ion generation from NH4SCN and multi-step oxidative construction of CN-functionalized heterocycles from easily available α-amino esters and pyridine-2-carbaldehydes has been discovered. Depending on the nature of the α-amino ester, 1-cyano-imidazo[1,5-a]pyridine-3-carboxylates, 3-alkyl- and 3-aryl-imidazo[1,5-a]pyridines-1-carbonitriles, and the first reported 4-oxo-4H-pyrido[1,2-a]pyrazine-1-carbonitriles were obtained. The electrosynthesis is carried out in an undivided electrochemical cell under constant current conditions.

Background: At least 20% of the future liver remnant must function properly after liver tumor resection to avoid post-hepatectomy liver failure (PHLF). [Tc]Tc-mebrofenin scintigraphy and SPECT are unique noninvasive, quantitative methods for evaluating liver function via hepatocellular bilirubin clearance.

Aim: To evaluate the value of dynamic [Tc]Tc-mebrofenin SPECT/CT parameters for predicting clinically relevant PHLF according to the ISGLS criteria.

A fluorescent probe derived from purine with Schiff base moiety was developed for the recognization of glyphosate and mesotrione. The detected glyphosate and mesotrione can lead to the dissociation of the Schiff base probe to enhance the fluorescence via a turn-off PET process. Mechanism study revealed that the synergistic effect of the phosphoric acid and the secondary amine moieties in glyphosate results in the bond cleavage of the Schiff base probe.

A series of potassium isothiocyanato-(N-salicylidene-aminoacidato) cuprates (1-5) with the general formula of the monomeric unit K[Cu(sal-aa)(NCS)] ⋅ xHO (x=0 or 2), containing a Schiff-base ligand (Hsal-aa) derived from natural amino acids such as glycine, DL-α-alanine, DL-valine, DL-phenylalanine and β-alanine, and salicylaldehyde, was screened for in vitro antiradical and major cellular effects against selected cancerous and normal cells. The complexes exhibited strong antioxidant properties against superoxide in vitro and a protective effect on DNA under Fenton-like reaction conditions. Screening of their cellular effects revealed moderate in vitro cytotoxicity against human cancer cell lines (A2780, A2780R and MCF-7), with IC values of 25-35 μM, and relatively low toxicity to normal fibroblast MRC-5 cells (with IC values>50 μM).

This study aimed to develop and optimize karanjin-loaded ethosomal nanogel formulation and evaluate its efficacy in alleviating symptoms of psoriasis in an animal model induced by imiquimod. These karanjin-loaded ethosomal nanogel, were formulated to enhance drug penetration into the skin and its epidermal retention. Karanjin was taken to formulate ethosomes due to its potential ani-psoriatic activity.
