Published: May 2012

Nonglycosylated erythropoietin bearing acetamidomethyl protecting groups at the cysteine residues has been synthesized via chemical methods. Alanine ligation was used to assemble four peptide fragments, themselves prepared by solid phase peptide synthesis. This work outlines a route for the synthesis of homogeneous glycosylated erythropoietin.

Wearable sensors are increasingly being used as biosensors for health monitoring. Current wearable devices are large, heavy, invasive, skin irritants, or not continuous. Miniaturization was chosen to address these issues, using a femtosecond laser-conversion technique to fabricate miniaturized laser-induced graphene (LIG) sensor arrays on and encapsulated within a polyimide substrate.

Development of a Second-Generation, Chemical Probe for PIKfyve.

J Med Chem

January 2025

Structural Genomics Consortium, UNC Eshelman School of Pharmacy, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, North Carolina 27599, United States.

We optimized our highly potent and cell-active chemical probe for phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate 5-kinase (PIKfyve), SGC-PIKFYVE-1, resulting in compounds with improved potency and demonstrated stability. Use of an in-cell, kinome-wide selectivity panel allowed for confirmation of excellent in-cell selectivity of our lead compound, , and another promising analogue, . Evaluation of the pharmacokinetic (PK) profiles of these two compounds revealed that both are well tolerated systemically and orally bioavailable.

College of Chemistry, Chemical Engineering and Materials Science, Collaborative Innovation Center of Functionalized Probes for Chemical Imaging in Universities of Shandong, Key Laboratory of Molecular and Nano Probes, Ministry of Education, Shandong Normal University, Jinan 250014, P. R. China.

A vinylene-linked DPP-COF with an ultra-narrow bandgap of 1.06 eV was reported. This COF demonstrates high chemical stability and significant charge transfer properties, and was applied to the photooxidation of sulfides and tetrahydroisoquinolines, exhibiting exceptional photoactivities.

Background: Stargardt disease type 1 (STGD1) is a progressive retinal disorder caused by bi-allelic variants in the ABCA4 gene. A recurrent variant at the exon-intron junction of exon 6, c.768G>T, causes a 35-nt elongation of exon 6 that leads to premature termination of protein synthesis.

Since the building blocks of DNA are nonfluorescent, various external fluorescence reporters have been employed to investigate the structure, dynamics, and function of DNA G-quadruplexes (GQs) and i-motifs (iMs), which play an important role in gene regulation and expression. However, most of those fluorescence reporters lack the ability to provide site-specific structural information of interest. Therefore, it is necessary to develop fluorescent nucleoside analogues that can be covalently inserted into oligonucleotides, which not only serve this purpose, but minimize any potential perturbation towards the native structure of the DNA systems in question.
