Metal positions in endohedral metallofullerenes (EMFs) are of special importance because their molecular symmetry and intrinsic properties are strongly influenced by the location and motion of the encapsulated metals. X-ray analyses of the cocrystals of Gd@C(2v)(9)-C(82) with nickel(II) octaethylporphyrin [Ni(II)(OEP)] reveal that the Gd(3+) cation is off-center, being located under a hexagonal ring along the 2-fold axis of the C(2v)(9)-C(82) cage. This result is in sharp contrast to that of a previous study, showing that Gd@C(2v)(9)-C(82) has an anomalous endohedral structure, with the metal being positioned over a [6,6] bond, which is opposite to the hexagonal ring along the C(2) axis (Phys. Rev. B 2004, 69, 113412). In agreement with theoretical calculations and related studies, it is conclusive that the single rare-earth metal in M@C(2v)(9)-C(82) always tends to coordinate with the hexagonal ring along the 2-fold axis, instead of interacting with the [6,6] bond on the other end, regardless of the type of metal atom.

Blood components play a crucial role in maintaining human health and accurately detecting them is essential for medical diagnostics. A cutting-edge sensor utilizing PCF revealed to precisely identify a wide range of blood components with WBCs (white blood cells), RBCs (red blood cells), HB (hemoglobin), platelets, and plasma. A numerical analysis was performed using COMSOL Multiphysics software to assess the capabilities of the sensor.

We report symmetric (vertex- and arc-transitive) embeddings of catenated rings, polyhedra and rods. Linked triangles form infinite families of structures, and we limit this report to only structures with each ring linked to three or six others. For linked squares, hexagons, tetrahedra, octahedra, cubes and rods, only a small number of symmetric structures were found, and all are reported.

Although hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) is used to treat systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), it is associated with retinal toxicity. Early diagnosis can prevent the further progression of HCQ-associated retinopathy by discontinuing HCQ treatments. This study aimed to evaluate the early diagnostic parameters in patients with SLE treated with HCQ and identify the best approach using multifocal electroretinography (mfERG) and swept-source optical coherence tomography (SS-OCT) to reflect subclinical retinal toxicity.

I revisit the well-known phase transition between the hexagonal skyrmion lattice and the homogeneous state within the phenomenological Dzyaloshinskii theory for chiral magnets, which includes only the exchange, Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya, and Zeeman energy contributions. I show that, in a narrow field range near the saturation field, the hexagonal skyrmion order gradually transforms into a square arrangement of skyrmions. Then, by the second-order phase transition during which the lattice period diverges, the square skyrmion lattice releases a set of repulsive isolated skyrmions.
