Objectives: To evaluate the complication rate and patient satisfaction of reconstruction of acquired auricular deformities and failed previous reconstruction by the osseointegration technique.
Methods: The study enrolled 24 patients from January 2002 to December 2005. Data collected included demographic information, success rate of auricular prostheses, site of implants, survival rate of implants, occurrence of skin reaction and condition of the prosthetic ear.
Results: Twenty-five ears (24 patients) were implanted. All ears were healing well with a lifelike appearance, stable fixation and natural color; except for 2 instances of implants dislocated by trauma, the rest survived well by first intention; skin reaction was the most troublesome complication, no patient was able to maintain a consistent level of soft-tissue health for the whole follow-up period, but the ratio and degree of skin reaction decreased gradually. The time of wearing prosthetic ears was more than 8 h/day. The average time length until prosthetic ear replacement was 3.5 years. There were no intracranial or systemic complications.
Conclusion: The osseointegration technique can be the method of choice for acquired auricular defects and failed reconstructions. Follow-up management is important to the health of the implants and the surrounding soft tissue and to preserve the prosthesis and its retention mechanism.

Background: Nasal ala defects present significant reconstructive challenges due to their complex anatomy and functional importance. Auricular composite grafts, incorporating both skin and cartilage, are particularly suited for this purpose because they can replace the multilayered structure of the nasal ala in a single surgical procedure, thereby restoring both form and function. Clinical outcomes of these grafts in the reconstruction of ala defects have been highly promising with studies indicating near complete survival rates.

Mastoid fistula is a rare condition, its causes include chronic suppurative otitis media and repeated ear surgeries. Management is challenging, simple closure typically leads to recurrence due to surrounding necrotic skin edges. Several surgical techniques have been described.

Statement Of Problem: The use of intraoral optical scanners has been introduced for direct digital data acquisition in maxillofacial prosthetics, but their clinical accuracy has not been evaluated sufficiently.
Purpose: The purpose of this observational study was to evaluate the use of different intraoral scanners for extraoral maxillofacial digitization of an ear and to assess visually the clinical outcome of the generated 3-dimensional ear casts.
Material And Methods: A selected intact ear was scanned by using 3 different intraoral optical scanners: CEREC Primescan (Dentsply Sirona), Medit i700 (Medit Corp) and Panda P2 (Pengtum Technologies).

Auricular vagus nerve stimulation (aVNS) is one of the promising neuromodulation techniques due to its non-invasiveness, convenience, and effectiveness. aVNS has been suggested as a potential treatment for neurodegenerative diseases showing impaired cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) dynamics. Improving CSF flow has been proposed as a key mechanism of the therapeutic effect on neurodegenerative diseases.

Aim: Due to the diversity and complexity of tissues involved in secondary nasal deformities following unilateral cleft lip, secondary nasal deformity correction surgeries are challenging and often yield unsatisfactory results, posing a difficult problem for plastic surgeons. Autologous cartilage, with its low sculpting difficulty, minimal absorption, and stable tissue compatibility, is considered the optimal material for reconstructing the columella, nasal tip, and alar. This study analyzed the clinical outcomes of using autologous cartilage to create a Y-shaped columella to correct secondary nasal deformities after cleft lip surgery.
