The level of circulating anxA5 is correlated to various diseases such as acute myocardial infarction, trauma, thrombosis, inflammation and in some cancers. Our aim was to assess whether a direct approach using surface plasmon resonance (SPR) could be easily used to provide a rapid and cheap alternative to detect anxA5 in blood samples in human. Our results indicate that SPR permits to detect and quantify circulating anxA5 in serum with a minimum time of manipulation. Furthermore, we report here, for the first time, that the level of circulating anxA5 is significantly higher in male than in female (5.43 (± 0.02) and 4.41 (± 0.2)ng/ml, respectively). In conclusion, we found that SPR can be used to rapidly quantify anxA5 in patients and that a gender difference has to be taken into account to explain gender differences in the prevalence of some diseases.

Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is a chronic relapsing and remitting disease with a rising incidence globally. Circulating exosomes play great roles in IBD pathogenesis through exosomal cargoes, especially impacting the function of endothelial barriers. Transendothelial electrical resistance (TEER) measurement is a widely used non-invasive and label-free strategy to monitor endothelial barrier function .

Purpose: Circulating blood plasma derived extracellular vesicles (BEVs) containing proteins hold promise for their use as minimally invasive biomarkers for predicting response to cancer therapy. The main goal of this study was to establish the efficiency and utility of the particle purification liquid chromatography (PPLC) BEV isolation method and evaluate the role of BEVs in predicting breast cancer (BC) patient response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC).
Methods: PPLC isolation was used to separate BEVs from non-EV contaminants and characterize BEVs from 17 BC patients scheduled to receive NAC.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) is characterized by endothelial dysfunction, increased thrombogenicity, and inflammation. The soluble human F11 receptor (sF11R) and annexin A5 (ANXA5) play crucial roles in inflammatory thrombosis and atherosclerosis. We examined the relationship between circulating sF11R and ANXA5 and their impact on endothelial function.

Atherosclerosis, a silent chronic vascular pathology, is the cause of the majority of cardiovascular ischaemic events. Atherosclerosis is characterized by a series of deleterious changes in cellularity, including endothelial dysfunction, transmigration of circulating inflammatory cells into the arterial wall, pro-inflammatory cytokines production, lipid accumulation in the intima, vascular local inflammatory response, atherosclerosis-related cells apoptosis and autophagy. Proteins of Annexin A (AnxA) family, the well-known Ca phospholipid-binding protein, have many functions in regulating inflammation-related enzymes and cell signaling transduction, thus influencing cell adhesion, migration, differentiation, proliferation and apoptosis.

Background: Previous studies have identified many immune pathways which are consistently altered in humans and model organisms as they age. Dairy cows are often culled at quite young ages due to an inability to cope adequately with metabolic and infectious diseases, resulting in reduced milk production and infertility. Improved longevity is therefore a desirable trait which would benefit both farmers and their cows.
