The relationship between basic research with nonhumans and applied behavior analysis is illustrated by our work on activity anorexia. When rats are fed one meal a day and allowed to run on an activity wheel, they run excessively, stop eating, and die of starvation. Convergent evidence, from several different research areas, indicates that the behavior of these animals and humans who self-starve is functionally similar. A biobehavioral theory of activity anorexia is presented that details the cultural contingencies, behavioral processes, and physiology of anorexia. Diagnostic criteria and a three-stage treatment program for activity-based anorexia are outlined. The animal model permits basic research on anorexia that for practical and ethical reasons cannot be conducted with humans. Thus, basic research can have applied importance.

Hypoxia-inducible factor prolyl hydroxylase inhibitor (HIF-PHI) is a novel class of orally administered medications for renal anemia in patients with end-stage renal disease (ESRD). Roxadustat, a HIF-PHI, has a structure similar to that of triiodothyronine and may work as an agonist for thyroid hormone receptor-beta in the pituitary gland and/or hypothalamus. Therefore, roxadustat may cause central hypothyroidism due to suppressing thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) release in the pituitary gland and/or thyrotropin-releasing hormone release in the hypothalamus.

Objective: Obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and anorexia nervosa (AN) are conditions associated with poor cognitive flexibility, a factor considered to interfere with treatment, but research into the relationship between cognitive flexibility and treatment outcome is limited. This study explores whether baseline measures of cognitive flexibility predict outcomes in OCD and AN, evaluates whether changes in these measures contribute to treatment outcome, and evaluates the effectiveness of adjunctive cognitive remediation therapy (CRT) in improving cognitive flexibility.
Methods: This secondary analysis utilized linear mixed model analysis on data from a randomized controlled multicenter clinical trial involving adult participants with OCD (n=71) AND AN (n=61).

Lipopolysaccharides (LPS) are major components of Gram-negative bacteria. LPS not only induce endotoxemia and inflammation, but also contribute to various diseases. In experimental settings, LPS administration serves as a model for acute inflammatory responses.

Endocrine therapy with CDK4/6 inhibitors is standard for estrogen receptor-positive, HER2-negative metastatic breast cancer (ER+/HER2- MBC), yet clinical resistance develops. Previously, we demonstrated that low doses of palbociclib activate autophagy, reversing initial G1 cell cycle arrest, while high concentrations induce off-target senescence. The autophagy inhibitor hydroxychloroquine (HCQ) induced on-target senescence at lower palbociclib doses.

Body image concerns are key prognostic and pathogenic factors of anorexia nervosa (AN) and bulimia nervosa (BN). This study aimed to investigate the neural mechanisms underlying body image perception across its two domains of estimation and satisfaction in anorexia and bulimia patients and healthy controls (HC). Systematic searches were conducted across eight databases, including PubMed; Cochrane Library; Ovid; Google Scholar; Sage Journals; Scopus; PsycInfo; and ScienceDirect, from database inception until the 23rd of April 2023.
