The structures of micelles of the surfactant polysorbate 80 (Tween 80) in 0-50% aqueous dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) solutions (pH 7.2, ionic strength 2.44 mM) were investigated by means of small-angle X-ray scattering. At DMSO concentrations of 0-20%, core-shell cylinder micelles formed, and at 30-50% DMSO, core-shell discus micelles formed, that is, changing the hydrophobicity of the DMSO solvent mixture changed the micelles from core-shell cylinder micelles to core-shell discus micelles.

Biocompatible γ-cyclodextrin metal-organic frameworks (γ-CD-MOFs) have been reported to improve the apparent solubility and bioavailability of encapsulated bioactive compounds, including curcumin, potentially enabling sustained delivery. However, disintegration of γ-CD-MOFs may "release" encapsulated curcumin within the cavity in its insoluble crystallized form. This study evaluated whether the presence of micelles (at a concentration above curcumin's maximum solubility) would be able to take up the "released" curcumin from γ-CD-MOFs to further increase its apparent solubility.

Parameters such as interfacial tension, dynamics, and rheology are intricately linked to the emulsifying and foaming properties of proteins. In this study, the effects of different Tween types and concentrations on the structure and interfacial characteristics of ovalbumin (OVA) were examined, and their relationships with emulsifying and foaming properties were explored. The results showed that the addition of Tween caused the structure of OVA to become looser and more disordered (β-sheets gradually transformed into β-turns) and exposed more hydrophobic groups.

The multiscale ordering of colloidal nanoparticles (NPs) endows materials with diverse functions and performances. The controllable and predictable assembly of NPs is essential for the new generation of materials science. This study presents a topology-regulated self-assembly approach in an aqueous environment, utilizing polysorbate 20 (Tween-20) and ultrasmall gold nanoparticles (2, 4, and 8 nm AuNPs).

We present a novel, multicomponent nanoparticulate carrier system based on superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles with a designed hydrophilic/hydrophobic balance based on oleic acid and TWEEN 80 to incorporate hydrophobic cannabinoids-cannabigerol and cannabidiol-as well as the hydrophilic anthracycline drug epirubicin, forming a conjugate anticancer system. Additionally, the superparamagnetic iron oxide-based nanoparticles formed the core of the system, thus providing it with magnetic hyperthermia capabilities with a specific absorption rate comparable to the corresponding systems in the literature. The interaction of the conjugate with the cell membrane was studied using the Langmuir monolayers at the air/water interface formed of selected lipids modeling the healthy and cancerous cell membranes.

We performed an update (last search: 24 July 2023) of a systematic review on relative efficacy/effectiveness (rVE) and safety of newer/enhanced seasonal influenza vaccines in comparison with standard influenza vaccine or in head-to-head comparison. Eligible studies investigated adults aged ≥ 18 years, analysed the MF59-adjuvanted or high-dose or cell-based or recombinant or mRNA-based influenza vaccine and reported rVE or safety in randomised controlled trials (RCT) or non-randomised studies of interventions (NRSI). Of 1561 new entries identified, 17 studies were included.
