Published: June 2013

From the chloroform extract of aerial part of Salvia xanthocheila Boiss. one new abietane diterpenoid, xantoquinone (5α,6α-dimethoxy-7,11,14-trioxoabieta-8,12-diene) and one known oleanene triterpenoid namely 1β,3β-dihydroxy-12-oleanene were isolated. The structure of the new terpenoid was elucidated by comprehensive spectroscopic analysis including electron ionisation-mass spectra, (1)H NMR, (13)C NMR, distortionless enchancement by polarisation transfer, H,H correlation spectroscopy, heteronuclear multiple-quantum coherence and heteronuclear multiple-bond correlation.

A series of novel carnosic acid derivatives incorporating urea moieties at the C-20 position was synthesized and evaluated for their antiproliferative activity against the HCT116 colorectal cancer cell line. Most derivatives demonstrated enhanced antiproliferative activity compared to that of carnosic acid . The most promising derivatives were tested in other colorectal cancer cell lines (SW480, SW620, and Caco-2), melanoma (A375), and pancreatic cancer (MiaPaca-2).

Considering the detrimental impacts of the current pesticides on the biotic components of the biosphere, the development of novel pesticides is vital. Plant-derived biopesticides have emerged as popular alternatives to create a safer and more sustainable agriculture model. This study aims to validate the previous bioguided fractionation of endemic Canary Islands sage, , as a potential source of botanical pesticides using a cultivation process.

Septic shock involves severe systemic inflammatory reaction toward various invading species, such as microorganisms and microbial toxins. Such a response is complicated and characterized as being a dynamic and time-dependent phenomenon. During this response, a significant amount of pro-inflammatory cytokines may be produced, causing a rapid death rate in septic victims and occasionally leading to apoptosis of immune cells within the first hours of septic reaction.

Background: Renal fibrosis, a hallmark of chronic kidney disease, is closely associated with dysregulated gluconeogenesis. Tanshinone I (Tan I), a bioactive compound derived from the traditional Chinese medicine Danshen, exhibits antifibrotic and anti-inflammatory properties. However, its effects on gluconeogenesis and the mechanisms through which it alleviates renal fibrosis remain unclear.
