Background And Purpose: In proton therapy, a relative biological effectiveness (RBE) of 1.1 is used to convert proton dose into an equivalent photon dose. However, RBE varies with tissue type, fraction dose, and beam quality parameters beyond dose such as linear energy transfer (LET) raising concerns about increased local effectiveness and potential toxicity.

The glycocalyx is a dense and dynamic layer of glycosylated species that covers every cell in the human body. It plays crucial roles in various cellular processes in health and disease, such as cancer immune evasion, cancer immune therapy, blastocyst implantation, and functional attenuation of membrane protein diffusion. In addition, alterations in glycocalyx structure may play an important role in ocular surface diseases, e.

Introduction: Positive end-expiratory pressure (PEEP) and prone positioning can improve gas exchange by promoting uniform lung aeration. However, elevated ventilation pressures may increase intracranial pressure (ICP) and disrupt cerebral autoregulation. This study investigated the effects of PEEP on ICP and cerebral autoregulation in a porcine model with healthy lungs and normal ICP, comparing prone and supine positions.

Ambient air pollution is an important contributor to increasing cases of lung cancer, which is a malignant cancer with the highest mortality among all cancers. It primarily manifests in the form of pulmonary nodules, but not all will develop into lung cancer. Therefore, it is highly desired to distinguish between benign and malignant pulmonary nodules for the early prevention and treatment of lung cancer.
