Background: Glyphosate is an extensively employed herbicide in agriculture, specifically for sugarcane cultivation. The situation is different with the extensive physiological and genetic effects exerted by this herbicide on a range of plant species, including sugarcane, whose model basis is still poorly characterized, although its primary mode of action, which acts on the EPSPS enzyme in the shikimic acid pathway, is completely elucidated. The current study was aimed at investigating the stability of glyphosate formulation, molecular interactions of glyphosate formulation with rbcL enzyme associated with chlorophyll metabolism, and its effects on varieties of sugarcane.

ABC-type salt tolerance transporter genes are abundant and mutually shared among the microorganisms of the hypersaline Sambhar Lake.

Extremophiles

January 2025

Microbiology Laboratory, Department of Botany (DST-FIST and UGC-DRS Funded), Institute of Science, Visva-Bharati (A Central University), Santiniketan, West Bengal, 731235, India.

To fish-out novel salt-tolerance genes, metagenomic DNA of moderately saline sediments of India's largest hypersaline Sambhar Lake was cloned in fosmid. Two functionally-picked clones helped the Escherichia coli host to tolerate 0.6 M NaCl.

Oxytetracycline and Florfenicol Association Affects Zebrafish Larvae Behavioral Repertoire.

Arch Environ Contam Toxicol

January 2025

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Biologia Celular e Molecular, Escola de Ciências da Saúde e da Vida, Pontifícia Universidade Católica do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, RS, Brazil.

Oxytetracycline (OTC) and Florfenicol (FF) are prevalent antibiotics choices in both fish production and livestock farming. A comprehensive understanding of their effects is paramount for effective control of their use and for elucidating their physiological and pharmacological implications. In our investigation, zebrafish larvae were subjected to varying concentrations of OTC, FF or a combination of OTC + FF during 96 h.

Population imaging of internal state circuits relevant to psychiatric disease: a review.

Neurophotonics

January 2025

University of Pittsburgh, Department of Psychiatry, Translational Neuroscience Program, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, United States.

Internal states involve brain-wide changes that subserve coordinated behavioral and physiological responses for adaptation to changing environments and body states. Investigations of single neurons or small populations have yielded exciting discoveries for the field of neuroscience, but it has been increasingly clear that the encoding of internal states involves the simultaneous representation of multiple different variables in distributed neural ensembles. Thus, an understanding of the representation and regulation of internal states requires capturing large population activity and benefits from approaches that allow for parsing intermingled, genetically defined cell populations.

Under climate change, ecosystems are experiencing novel drought regimes, often in combination with stressors that reduce resilience and amplify drought's impacts. Consequently, drought appears increasingly likely to push systems beyond important physiological and ecological thresholds, resulting in substantial changes in ecosystem characteristics persisting long after drought ends (i.e.
