HIV-1 Vif global diversity and possible APOBEC-mediated response since 1980.

Virus Evol

December 2024

U.S. Military HIV Research Program, Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, 503 Robert Grant Ave, Silver Spring, MD 20910, USA.

HIV-1 Vif's principal function is to counter the antiretroviral activities of DNA-editing APOBEC3 cytidine deaminases. Unconstrained APOBEC3 activity introduces premature stop codons in HIV-1 genes and can lead to viral inactivation. To investigate the evolution and diversification of Vif over the HIV-1 pandemic and document evidence of APOBEC3-mediated pressure, we analyzed 4612 publicly available sequences derived from 10 dominant subtypes and circulating recombinant forms (CRFs) using the Hervé platform.

Introduction: Rabies monoclonal antibody (mAb) is a life-saving immune-biological for postexposure prophylaxis (PEP) in all Category III animal exposures. A novel cocktail of mAbs derived using recombinant DNA technology is presently available for usage. The WHO recommends monitoring the clinical use and outcomes of mAb products.

To many in the scientific community, the 1975 Asilomar Conference on Recombinant DNA stands as a singular achievement. This experiment in governance seemed to demonstrate that citizens could trust scientists to anticipate their fields' risks and propose sensible ways to regulate themselves. Over the past half-century, similar efforts have been made to govern controversial areas of research, from geoengineering to artificial intelligence.

A colloidal gold immunochromatographic assay (ICA) based on a dual-antibody sandwich method was developed for the rapid and convenient detection of () antigens in the early stages of infection. Monoclonal antibodies designed as 5B3 targeting the conserved region of 56 kDa outer membrane protein in various strains of were generated through cell fusion and screening techniques and combined with previously prepared polyclonal antibodies as detection antibodies to establish the ICA. Colloidal gold and polyclonal antibody-colloidal gold complexes were synthesized under optimized conditions.

Pivotal roles of Plasmodium falciparum lysophospholipid acyltransferase 1 in cell cycle progression and cytostome internalization.

Commun Biol

Department of Cellular Architecture Studies, Division of Shionogi Global Infectious Diseases Division, Institute of Tropical Medicine (NEKKEN), Nagasaki University, Nagasaki, Japan.

The rapid intraerythrocytic replication of Plasmodium falciparum, a deadly species of malaria parasite, requires a quick but constant supply of phospholipids to support marked cell membrane expansion. In the malarial parasite, many enzymes functioning in phospholipid synthesis pathway have not been identified or characterized. Here, we identify P.
