Menopause is a natural biological aging process characterized by the loss of ovarian follicular function and decrease estrogen levels. These hormonal fluctuations are associated with increased iron levels, which ultimately lead to iron accumulation. This study aims to investigate the effects of Deferasirox on iron homeostasis and hematopoiesis in ovariectomized rats with iron accumulation.

Evaluation of sticky bone in guided bone regeneration in the aesthetic area of the anterior teeth: a retrospective study.

Int J Oral Maxillofac Surg

January 2025

Stomatological Hospital of Chongqing Medical University, Chongqing, China; Chongqing Municipal Key Laboratory of Oral Biomedical Engineering of Higher Education, Chongqing, China; Chongqing Key Laboratory of Oral Diseases and Biomedical Sciences, Chongqing, China. Electronic address:

The retrospective study aimed to compare the space-maintaining effects of sticky bone (bone graft matrix enriched with injectable platelet-rich fibrin) and titanium mesh for bone augmentation in the aesthetic zone. Patients who underwent single implant placement and had type 2/4 alveolar bone defects (buccal bone wall loss is >50% of the expected implant length) were screened for inclusion in this study. The labial bone plate width was measured at 1, 3, and 5 mm below the apical implant platform on cone beam computed tomography images taken immediately and 6 months after surgery.

Application of modified Curie and SIOPEN skeleton scoring systems in F-AlF-NOTA-octreotide PET/CT for neuroblastoma.

Ann Nucl Med

December 2024

Nuclear Medicine Department, Beijing Friendship Hospital, Capital Medical University, 95 Yong'an Road, Xicheng District, Beijing, 100050, China.

Objective: The study aimed to explore the role of fluorine-18-aluminum fluoride-1,4,7-triazacyclononane-1,4,7-triacetic acid-octreotide (F-OC) positron emission tomography/computed tomography (PET/CT) in neuroblastoma (NB) and compared it with Iodine-123 labeled metaiodobenzylguanidine (I-MIBG) scintigraphy with single photon emission computed tomography/computed tomography (SPECT/CT), as well as to investigate the feasibility of the modified Curie scoring system and International Society of Pediatric Oncology Europe Neuroblastoma (SIOPEN) skeleton scoring system applied in F-OC PET/CT.

Methods: Patients with pathologically confirmed NB underwent I-MIBG scintigraphy with SPECT/CT and F-OC PET/CT according the standard imaging protocols. The interval between the two imaging techniques ranged from 0 to 22 days (median interval: 9 days).

Background: Knee arthrodesis is a means of avoiding above-knee amputation after a periprosthetic joint infection (PJI). The objective of this study was to analyze the results of floating knee arthrodesis in patients who had a history of a periprosthetic knee infection and to perform an external validation of the Baeza-Ortega scale. The analysis consisted of determining reinfection rates, functional results, and the survival of arthrodesis.

Article Synopsis
  • MRI can identify key biomarkers like bone marrow fat-fraction (BMFF), skeletal muscle fat-fraction (SMFF), and total adipose tissue (TAT) to assess conditions related to osteosarcopenic adiposity (OSA) in individuals.
  • In a study with 363 participants, 81 (22.3%) were classified with OSA, characterized by older age, higher SMFF levels, and greater body mass index (BMI).
  • The OSA subgroup also showed the highest prevalence of health issues such as impaired glucose tolerance, high blood pressure, higher cholesterol levels, and liver fat accumulation, suggesting the importance of MRI in monitoring these health risks.
