We present a pulsed-magnet system that enables x-ray single-crystal diffraction in addition to powder and spectroscopic studies with the magnetic field applied on or close to the scattering plane. The apparatus consists of a single large-bore solenoid, cooled by liquid nitrogen. A second independent closed-cycle cryostat is used for cooling samples near liquid helium temperatures. Pulsed magnetic fields close to ~30 T with a zero-to-peak-field rise time of ~2.9 ms are generated by discharging a 40 kJ capacitor bank into the magnet coil. The unique characteristic of this instrument is the preservation of maximum scattering angle (~23.6°) on the entrance and exit sides of the magnet bore by virtue of a novel double-funnel insert. This instrument will facilitate x-ray diffraction and spectroscopic studies that are impractical, if not impossible, to perform using split-pair and narrow-opening solenoid magnets. Furthermore, it offers a practical solution for preserving optical access in future higher-field pulsed magnets.

The development of pulsed magnets capable of generating magnetic fields exceeding 100 Tesla has been recognized as a crucial pursuit for advancing the scientific research on high magnetic fields. However, the operation of magnets at ultra-high magnetic fields often leads to accidental failures at their ends, necessitating a comprehensive exploration of the underlying mechanisms. To this end, this study investigates, for the first time, the mechanical behaviors of Zylon fiber-reinforced polymers (ZFRPs) within pulsed magnets from a composite perspective.

A system based on a novel scheme for generating the repetitive pulsed high magnetic field (RPHMF) is developed and applied to enhance the performance of the NdFeB electrocatalyst in alkaline water electrolysis for the first time. In this system, the scheme for generating continuously high-frequency pulses depends on the cooperation of multiple power modules with a new structure. Multiple power modules are connected in parallel to energize the pulsed magnet, and each module is composed of two capacitor banks and a pulse transformer, which is used to realize the conversion of the energy between the two capacitor banks.

We report on the construction and performance of the first hybrid resistive-superconducting magnet (HM) based scanning tunnelling microscope (STM) above 30 T. This custom-design HM-STM features a novel design of the STM head unit, whose tip-sample approach is implemented using a slender piezoelectric tube (PZT). The scanner shares part of PZT by fixing a sapphire frame onto the front quarter of PZT to construct a compact tip-sample loop, realising an outer diameter of 8.

We report on new results of a search for a two-photon interaction with axionlike particles (ALPs). The experiment is carried out at a synchrotron radiation facility using a "light shining through a wall (LSW)" technique. For this purpose, we develop a novel pulsed-magnet system, composed of multiple racetrack magnets and a transportable power supply.

Field-stepped broadband NMR in pulsed magnets and application to SrCu2(BO3)2 at 54T.

Dresden High Magnetic Field Laboratory (HLD-EMFL), Helmholtz-Zentrum Dresden-Rossendorf, 01314 Dresden, Germany.

Pulsed magnets generate the highest magnetic fields as brief transients during which the observation of NMR is difficult, however, this is the only route to unique insight into material properties up to the regime of 100T. Here, it is shown how rather broad NMR spectra can be assembled in a pulsed magnet during a single field pulse by using the inherent time dependence of the field for the recording of field-stepped free induction decays that cover a broad frequency range. The technique is then applied to (11)B NMR of the spin-dimer system SrCu2(BO3)2, a magnetic insulator known to undergo a series of field-driven changes of the magnetic ground state.
