In this study, sugar-free (A) and sugar-added (B) formulations of carob sherbet were fermented with water kefir grains. After 48 h of fermentation, the pH and total soluble solid content level (TSS) of A and B decreased, while the titratable acidity (TA) value increased. At the end of fermentation, Ave B formulations were stored at 4 °C for 28 days.

Nitroxide radical contrast agents for safe magnetic resonance imaging: progress, challenges, and perspectives.

Mater Horiz

January 2025

State Key Laboratory of Chemical Engineering, College of Chemical and Biological Engineering, Zhejiang University, Hangzhou 310058, P. R. China.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is considered one of the most valuable diagnostic technologies in the 21st century. To enhance the image contrast of anatomical features, MRI contrast agents have been widely used in clinical MRI diagnosis, especially those based on gadolinium, manganese, and iron oxide. However, these metal-based MRI contrast agents show potential toxicity to patients, which urges researchers to develop novel MRI contrast agents that can replace metal-based MRI contrast agents.

21 century surface UV radiation changes deduced from CMIP6 models: part I-evolution of major influencing factors.

January 2025

Institute of Meteorology and Climate Research Atmospheric Trace Gases and Remote Sensing, Karlsruhe Institute of Technology, Karlsruhe, Germany.

For a given solar elevation, the levels of solar ultraviolet radiation at the Earth's surface are determined by the amounts of ozone, aerosols, and clouds, as well as by the reflectivity of the surface. Here, we study the evolution of these factors for three selected decades in the period 1950-2100 using results from simulations with Earth-System models (ESMs) participating in the 6 phase of the Coupled Model Intercomparison Project (CMIP6). The simulations for the future are based on three Shared Socioeconomic Pathways: SSP1-2.

Disseminating training nationwide through the Cooperative Extension Service, particularly as global demand for poultry products continues to increase, is critical for sustainable poultry production. Increasing urbanization, globalization of the poultry industry, consumer interest in animal welfare and labor shortages present opportunities for Extension professionals to engage diverse audiences and increase agricultural literacy. As part of the Poultry Science Association's 2024 National Extension Workshop, we presented examples of initiatives aimed at connecting educators, teachers and learners to address some of the pressing issues facing the poultry industry.

The Incarnation of Zoology in the 21st Century as an International Scientific Discipline.

Integr Zool

December 2024

College of Science, Engineering & Technology, RMIT University, Melbourne, Australia.

This essay was originally prepared for a special commemorative volume to celebrate the International Zoological Congress (established 135 years ago) and the International Society of Zoological Sciences (ISZS, established 20 years ago). These two institutions underpin international cooperation and promote excellence in zoological research without which the science of zoology would be very much the poorer.
