Background: Respiratory and cardiovascular diseases are the most common causes of death in children with cerebral palsy.
Objective: To evaluate sonographic carotid intima-media thickness, an early marker of atherosclerosis, in children with cerebral palsy and in healthy controls.
Materials And Methods: One hundred children with cerebral palsy (65 boys), mean age 6.2 (SD, 2.1) years, and 35 age-matched and sex-matched healthy controls were included. Common carotid artery intima-media thickness was measured sonographically. Differences between patients and controls were evaluated with an independent samples t-test.
Results: Age, sex distribution and levels of serum lipids were comparable between patients and controls. Average, right and left carotid artery intima-media were thicker in patients compared with controls (mean ± SD, 0.61 ± 0.13 mm vs 0.40 ± 0.03 mm; 0.61 ± 0.14 mm vs 0.40 ± 0.03 mm; 0.61 ± 0.13 mm vs 0.40 ± 0.03 mm, respectively; all P < 0.001).
Conclusion: Carotid intima-media is sonographically thicker in children with cerebral palsy compared with healthy controls, which may express an increased risk of atherosclerotic diseases.

Magnesium is an essential mineral in biological systems and has a significant impact on brain health. Its deficiency has been found to correlate with irregular metabolic processes and neurodevelopmental disorders. The objective of this research was to establish and validate an analytical approach based on the standard addition methodology for determining endogenous magnesium levels in the serum of autistic and healthy children.

Background: This study aims to investigate the effect of a newly developed virtual reality task-oriented training (VR-TOT) video game on upper extremity fine motor function compared with conventional occupational therapy through leap motion in children with spastic hemiplegic cerebral palsy (CP).
Methods: In this double-blind randomized clinical trial, 30 children with spastic hemiplegic CP aged six to 10 years were included and randomly allocated into two groups. During six weeks, 15 patients in the intervention group received VR_TOT-based video game in addition to conventional occupational therapy, whereas 15 patients in the control group received only conventional occupational therapy.

Introduction: Traumatic injury is the leading cause of pediatric mortality and morbidity in the United States. While behavioral impairments of children after traumatic brain injury (TBI) have been described, outcomes following traumatic spinal cord injury (SCI) and multi-trauma (MT) are less known. We aimed to address the prevalence of behavioral and neuropsychiatric disorders in pediatric and adolescent trauma patients.
