Background And Objectives: To compare the effect of dexmedetomidine and fentanyl on hemodynamic changes in chronic male smokers.

Methods: This is a prospective, randomized, blinded study. Were selected 60 chronic male smokers (aged 16 to 60 years). The patients were randomly divided into two groups: Group D (n=30) received 1μg.kg(-1) dexmedetomidine and Group F (n=30) received 3μg.kg(-1) fentanyl in 150mL of normal saline, beginning 10 minutes before anesthesia induction. Before intubation, the heart rate and blood pressure of patients were measured. After anesthesia induction for endotracheal intubation, heart rate and blood pressure values were measured at 1, 3, and 5 minutes after intubation.

Results: Heart rate was low in Group D before anesthesia induction, intubation, and at the 1st and 3rd minutes after intubation. Systolic arterial pressure was low in Group F before intubation. Although diastolic arterial pressure was lower before anesthesia induction and at 5 minutes after intubation in both groups, it was already low in Group F before intubation. Whereas the mean arterial pressure was low in Group D before anesthesia induction, it was low in Group F before intubation. The values for rate-pressure product were low in Group D before induction and at 1 and 3 minutes after intubation.

Conclusions: Dexmedetomidine, which was applied via infusion at a loading dose of 1μg.kg(-1) 10 minutes before anesthesia induction in chronic male smokers, better suppressed increases in heart rate and rate-pressure product at 1 and 3 minutes after intubation compared to the group receiving 3μg.kg(-1) fentanyl.

Objective: Stress hormone levels such as cortisol and epinephrine increase with general anesthesia (GA) and surgery. Parathyroid hormone (PTH) has been shown to increase with GA in those undergoing parathyroidectomy (PT) with abnormal parathyroid function, but there are conflicting reports of it in those with normal parathyroid function. In this study, we aim to determine the effects of anesthetic and surgical stress on those with abnormal parathyroid function undergoing PTs as well as those with normal parathyroid function undergoing unilateral/total thyroidectomies (UTs/TTs).

Surgery, especially if minimally invasive, still plays a role in the diagnosis of suspect lymphoproliferative lesions in challenging locations such as the retroperitoneum. Fluorescence guidance may help in such cases facilitating the visualization of highly vascularized lesions. Our recent experience with a 71-year-old woman with retroperitoneal lymphadenopathy and suspected lymphoma supports this hypothesis.

Background: Given the prevalence of cardiovascular disease, encountering difficult airways in this patient population is quite common. The challenge for anesthesiologists lies not only in establishing the airway but also in managing the hemodynamic instability caused by sympathetic activation during intubation. The purpose of this report is to describe the anesthetic experience of this patient with severe mitral and tricuspid regurgitation, atrial fibrillation with rapid ventricular response, and moderate pulmonary hypertension with an anticipated difficult airway.

Objective: To investigate the efficacy of the SaCo videolaryngeal mask airway (VLMA) in combination with a bronchial blocker in patients undergoing minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery.

Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 120 patients who underwent minimally invasive thoracoscopic surgery from January 2022 to December 2023. Patients were grouped based on their treatment methods: 68 patients who received the SaCo VLMA combined with a bronchial blocker intraoperatively were designated as the L group, while 52 patients who received a tracheal tube combined with a bronchial blocker intraoperatively were designated as the E group.

Objective: To evaluate the clinical effect of a subspecialty standardized temperature management process in a hybrid surgery for treating acute aortic dissection.

Methods: From January 2020 to June 2021, 102 patients who underwent hybrid surgery for acute aortic dissection in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Huai'an First People's Hospital were selected as the control group, receiving routine temperature maintenance measures. From August 2021 to November 2022, 105 similar patients from the same hospital were enrolled in the experimental group, where a subspecialty standardized temperature management process was implemented.
