In 2010, the National Radiation Standard Laboratory held a proficiency test for measurement and analysis of clearance mixed-nuclide samples. Two types of samples, box-shape and drum-shape, containing (60)Co and (137)Cs mixed solutions were measured by the participating laboratories and their results were then compared with the reference values. Seven participants used plastic scintillator counting systems and two participants used HPGe spectrometer systems to join in this study, obtaining 40 measurement results. The evaluation results showed that all the participants passed the requirements of this proficiency test, E(n)≦1, and the discrepancy was between -25% and 50%.

Background: Proficiency in endotracheal intubation (ETI) is essential for medical professionals and its training should start at medical schools; however, large caseload may be required before achieving an acceptable success rate with direct laryngoscopy. Video laryngoscopy has proven to be an easier alternative for intubation with a faster learning curve, but its availability in medical training may be an issue due to its high market prices. We devised a low-cost 3-dimensionally printed video laryngoscope (3DVL) and performed a randomized trial to evaluate if the intubation success rate on the first attempt with this device is noninferior to a standard commercially available video laryngoscope (STVL).

Objective: To develop an automatic segmentation model to delineate the adnexal masses and construct a machine learning model to differentiate between low malignant risk and intermediate-high malignant risk of adnexal masses based on ovarian-adnexal reporting and data system (O-RADS).
Methods: A total of 663 ultrasound images of adnexal mass were collected and divided into two sets according to experienced radiologists: a low malignant risk set (n = 446) and an intermediate-high malignant risk set (n = 217). Deep learning segmentation models were trained and selected to automatically segment adnexal masses.

It is well established that patients with limited English proficiency (LEP) have higher rates of misdiagnosis, medical errors, and serious adverse events, and recommended best practices for LEP patient care are often not followed.
Objective: Our team sought to elicit provider perspectives regarding the barriers they face in caring for LEP patients-especially the unique challenges faced when caring for patients with complex and sensitive diagnoses such as gynecologic cancer.

In literate adults, an area along the left posterior fusiform gyrus that is often referred to as the "visual word form area" (VWFA) responds particularly strongly to written characters compared to other visually similar stimuli. Theoretical accounts differ in whether they attribute the strong left-lateralization of the VWFA to a left-hemisphere bias towards visual features used in script, to competition of visual word form processing with that of other visual stimuli processed in the same general cortical territory (especially faces), or to the well-established left-lateralization of the language system.Here we used functional magnetic resonance imaging to test the last hypothesis by investigating lateralization of the VWFA in participants (male and female) who have right-hemisphere language due to a large left-hemisphere perinatal stroke.
