Effect of listening to music on anxiety, pain, and cardiorespiratory parameters in cardiac surgery: A randomized clinical trial.

Intensive Crit Care Nurs

January 2025

Didactic-Scientific Department of Nursing in Hospital Care, Institute of Health Sciences, Federal University of Triângulo Mineiro, Av. Getúlio Guaritá, 107, CEP: 38025-440 Uberaba Minas Gerais Brazil. Electronic address:

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of listening to music on preoperative anxiety, postoperative pain (at rest and during coughing), and cardiorespiratory parameters in patients undergoing cardiac surgery.

Design: Single-centered, randomized, parallel, superiority clinical trial.

Methods: This study was carried out with 50 adult patients undergoing elective cardiac surgery randomly allocated at a 1:1 ratio to one of the groups, experimental (n = 25) or control (n = 25).

Background: Children usually have an asymptomatic or mild course of SARS-CoV-2 infection, studies in immunocompromised patients have shown a different evolution. The aim of this study was to describe the clinical, laboratory, and radiologic manifestations of pediatric solid organ transplant (SOT) and hematopoietic stem cell transplant (HSCT) patients testing positive for SARS-CoV-2.

Methods: A multicenter retrospective, observational descriptive study was conducted in 3 tertiary hospitals in Madrid (Spain) between March 2020 and December 2022.

Determination of policyclic aromatic compounds, (PAH, nitro-PAH and oxy-PAH) in soot collected from a diesel engine operating with different fuels.

Sci Total Environ

November 2023

Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha, Instituto de Investigación en Combustión y Contaminación Atmosférica, Camino de Moledores s/n, 13071 Ciudad Real, Spain. Electronic address:

A qualitative and quantitative analysis of polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs; polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), oxygenated and nitrated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (OPAHs and NPAHs)) present in the soluble organic fraction (SOF) of different soot samples has been carried out to determine the effect of soot-generation conditions on their composition and health effects. The soot samples were generated using a diesel engine bench powered by diesel (DS) and biodiesel (BS) fuels under different combustion conditions. To optimize the procedure, a surrogate soot (Printex-U) and a certified reference material (SRM1650b) were also tested.

Article Synopsis
  • Depression and anxiety are common in neurological disorders, significantly affecting patients' quality of life and disability levels, but they are often underdiagnosed and undertreated due to symptom complexity.
  • Early identification and treatment of depression alongside neurological conditions are crucial to prevent worsening symptoms and increased disability.
  • Treatment options exist, including medication and therapy, but their effectiveness can vary, leading to a need for collaborative care between neurologists and neuropsychiatry teams, especially in severe cases.

Investigation of PAHs, nitrated PAHs and oxygenated PAHs in PM urban aerosols. A comprehensive data analysis.

Chemosphere

May 2022

Universidad de Castilla La Mancha, Departamento de Química Orgánica, Facultad de Ciencias y Tecnologías Químicas, Avenida Camilo José Cela s/n, 13071, Ciudad Real, Spain. Electronic address:

Polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) in particulate matter contribute considerably to the health risk of air pollution. As such, we have optimized a method to determine the levels of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, especially nitrated and oxygenated polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, in samples of PM particulate matter using microwave-assisted extraction (MAE) and gas chromatography coupled to a triple quadrupole mass spectrometer (GC-MS/MS). The proposed method was applied to the analysis of real samples collected in the urban area of Ciudad Real (Spain) during one year.
