Background: Consumer use of natural products is a mainstay in our society and continues to grow in prevalence. As pharmacists are viewed as drug experts and are easily accessible to patients, it is important for them to have basic knowledge of natural products.

Methods: Students and faculty members participating in a natural product elective were surveyed upon completion of the course about their perspectives regarding incorporation of covered information into the required curriculum.

Results: The majority of students and faculty members agree with the necessity of natural product content in the pharmacy curriculum. Their ideas for ways of incorporating this information, however, differ.

Conclusion: Healthcare students and faculty are beginning to recognize the need for incorporation of Natural Product information into the curriculum and healthcare programs in the country should begin to rise to the occasion.

Background: Accumulating evidence suggests that the presynaptic protein α-synuclein (α-syn), is involved in the pathophysiology of AD and elevated in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The role of Natural Killer (NK) cells of the innate immune system in AD has largely been overlooked. In a murine model, depletion of NK cells augmented the accumulation of pathological α-syn.

LN18178 is a standardized, synergistic combination of fruit rind and seed extracts, which has been reported to increase serum testosterone levels in young and aging males. The present 84-day randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study assessed the efficacy of LN18178 on the sexual function of aging male volunteers (age: 40-70 years; serum total testosterone: ≥ 300 ng/dL). The subjects with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction [5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) scores 17-25] and low sexual desire (score < 3 on items 11 and 12 of IIEF) participated in this investigation.

Anthracyclines (ANTs) are widely used in cancer therapy, particularly for lymphoma, sarcoma, breast cancer, and childhood leukemia, and have become the cornerstone of chemotherapy for various malignancies. However, it is associated with fatal and dose-dependent cardiovascular complications, especially cardiotoxicity. Mitochondrial quality control mechanisms, encompassing mitophagy, mitochondrial dynamics, and mitochondrial biogenesis, maintain mitochondrial homeostasis in the cardiovascular system.

Understanding the development and maintenance of immunological memory is important for efforts to eliminate parasitic diseases like leishmaniasis. Leishmaniasis encompasses a range of pathologies, resulting from infection with protozoan parasites belonging to the subgenera and of the genus A striking feature of these infections is that natural or drug-mediated cure of infection generally confers life-long protection against disease. The generation of protective T cell responses are necessary to control infections.
