The effect of carotenoids on stability of model photosynthetic pigment-protein complexes subjected to chemical oxidation with hydrogen peroxide or potassium ferricyanide was investigated. The oxidation of carotenoid-less and carotenoid-containing complexes was conducted in the presence or absence of ascorbic acid. The progress of the reactions was monitored by use of absorption and fluorescence spectroscopy. Our results show that carotenoids may significantly enhance the stability of photosynthetic complexes against oxidation and their protective (antioxidant) effect depends on the type of the oxidant.

The current study investigated the effect of a single administration of human chorionic gonadotropin hormone (hCG) and its nanoparticles (NPs) on testicular hemodynamics using Doppler ultrasonography, testicular volume, testicular echotexture (PIX), and circulating testosterone and nitric oxide (NO) in pubescent goat bucks during summer months. Fifteen Baladi goats were divided into three groups (5 in each) and subjected to a single intramuscular administration of one ml of physiological saline ( control group), one ml containing 500 IU of hCG (hCG group) or one ml containing 125 IU of hCG NPs (hCG NPs group). Testicular hemodynamics assessment was done just before administration (0 h), and at 2, 4, 6, 24, and daily till 7 days after administration.

A Cr-doped VO nanobelt (Cr/VO) with remarkable peroxidase-like activity was synthesized and coupled with uricase to catalyze the cascade reaction for  detection of uric acid. Notably, the affinity of Cr/VO for 3,3',5,5'-tetramethylbenzidine dihydrochloride hydrate (TMB) and hydrogen peroxide (HO) is tenfold and 20-fold higher, respectively, than that of horseradish peroxidase (HRP). The Cr/VO exhibits highly reactive and stable peroxidase activity at temperatures of 20-60 ℃.

Alzheimer's disease is a complex neurodegenerative disease characterized by progressive decline in cognitive function and behaviour. Ginger is the rhizome of the plant Zingiber officinale Roscoe, has been an important ingredient of many Ayurveda formulations to treat neurological disorders. The present study aims to estimate the variation of 6-gingerol content in nine different ginger samples collected from Manipur, India, investigate the neuroprotective potential of the most potent ginger sample against scopolamine-induced cognitively impaired mice, and validate the therapeutic claim by molecular docking analysis.

Diseases and injuries can cause significant bone loss, leading to increased medical expenses, decreased work efficiency, and a decline in quality of life. Bone tissue engineering (BTE) is gaining attention as an alternative to autologous and allogeneic transplantation due to the limited availability of donors. Biomaterials represent a promising strategy for bone regeneration, and their design should consider the three key processes in bone tissue engineering: osteogenesis, bone conduction, and bone induction.
