The present study evaluated the effectiveness of a drug-free unit (DFU) in reducing the use of substances by incarcerated adult offenders, and to analyze changes in the addiction severity index, motivation, and personality caused by the program. This is an external evaluation, with an ex post facto design with repeated measures. Eighty-seven prisoners from the DFU were evaluated during the first year of residence in the program. Most are young men, polydrug addicts and mainly serving sentences for public health crimes and property offenses. There is need of psychiatric treatment at the baseline, with 85% comorbid personality disorders. Motivation for treatment is low, and remains stable over 12 month's duration of the study. The DFU was found to have a significant effect in reducing the use of drugs by offenders and to improve the drug and family composite scores, also reducing scores on personality scales. However, it fails to change medical and psychiatric scores, so that the need for intervention in these areas is underscored.

Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a common but devastating complication of diabetes mellitus and might ultimately lead to amputation. Elucidating the regulatory mechanism of wound healing in DFU is quite important for developing DFU management strategies. Here, we show, mecenchymal stem cell (MSC)-derived exosomes promoted the proliferation, migration and angiogenesis of high glucose-treated endothelial cells and reduced cell apoptosis.

Introduction: There are limited data regarding the associations between public transportation reliance, availability, and diabetic foot ulcer (DFU)-related amputations.
Research Design And Methods: We used visit-level data from the Georgia 2016-2019 Healthcare Cost and Utilization Project database and obtained transportation variables from open sources. Using Bayesian spatial-temporal models, we assessed the associations between transportation and DFU-related amputations within each quartile of poverty status indicators at the ZIP code tabulation area (ZCTA) level.

Aims/introduction: Diabetic foot ulcer (DFU) is a prevalent complication of diabetes characterized by heightened inflammation and impaired wound-healing processes. Interleukin-37 (IL-37) is a natural suppressor of innate inflammation. Here, we aim to investigate the potential of IL-37 in enhancing the healing process of diabetic wounds.

Single treatment methods for wound infections caused by drug-resistant bacteria often fail to simultaneously achieve high antimicrobial efficacy and wound healing efficiency. Therefore, it is crucial to develop a small molecule prodrug that can achieve both goals, in this context, we have engineered a green-light-activated nitric oxide photocage/photodynamic therapeutic prodrug, designed to release NO, which not only potentiates antimicrobial efficacy but also facilitates collagen accumulation at the wound interface, thereby expediting the wound healing process. Additionally, it mitigates tissue inflammation by suppressing the NF-κB signaling pathway.

This study aims to evaluate the antibiotic susceptibility profiles of bacterial isolates from DFU patients, identify the prevalence of MDROs, and identify specific risk factors contributing to these infections to inform effective antibiotic treatment strategies. This prospective cohort study included 187 DFU patients from March 2023 to February 2024 at King Khalid Hospital, Saudi Arabia. The exclusion criteria were nondiabetic ulcers, specific infections, tumours, or recent antibiotic use.
