Non-canonical DNA structures formed by aberrantly expanded repeat DNA are implicated in promoting repeat instability and the onset of repeat expansion diseases. Small molecules that target these disease-causing repeat DNAs hold promise as therapeutic agents for such diseases. Specifically, 1,3-di(quinolin-2-yl)guanidine (DQG) has been identified to bind to the disease-causing GGCCCC (G2C4) repeat DNA associated with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis and frontotemporal dementia (ALS/FTD).

Lung cancer, particularly non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC), remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Resistance to platinum-based chemotherapy, such as cisplatin, significantly limits treatment efficacy. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have emerged as key regulators of cancer progression and chemotherapy resistance due to their stable structure, which protects them from degradation.

(1) Background: Animal growth is a complex process, involving the coordination of a wide variety of genes, non-coding RNAs, and pathways. Circular RNAs (circRNAs) belong to a novel class of functional non-coding RNAs (ncRNAs). They have a distinctive ring structure and are involved in various biological processes, including the proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis of muscle cells.

The misfolding and amyloid aggregation of proteins have been attracting scientific interest for a few decades, due to their link with several diseases, particularly neurodegenerative diseases. Proteins can assemble and result in insoluble aggregates that, together with intermediate oligomeric species, modify the extracellular environment. Many efforts have been and are devoted to the search for cosolvents and cosolutes able to interfere with amyloid aggregation.
