A system for expression and in situ display of recombinant proteins on a microbead surface is described. Biotinylated PCR products were immobilized on microbead surfaces, which were then embedded in a gel matrix and supplied with translation machinery and substrates. Upon the incubation of the gel matrix, target proteins encoded on the bead-immobilized DNA were expressed and captured on the same bead, thus allowing bead-mediated linkage of DNA and encoded proteins. The new method combines the simplicity and convenience of solid-phase separation of genetic information with the benefits of cell-free protein synthesis, such as instant translation of genetic information, unrestricted substrate accessibility and flexible assay configuration design.

Polymer-based organic electrodes for rechargeable batteries are attractive due to their design flexibility, sustainability, and environmental compatibility. Unfortunately, waste management of conventional polymer materials typically involves incineration, which emits greenhouse gases. Consequently, degradable polymers should be ideal candidates for future green batteries.

We report the synthesis of multifunctional periodic mesoporous organosilica nanoparticles (PMO NPs) with substantial two-photon absorption properties and targeting capability for two-photon excitation fluorescence (TPEF) and photodynamic therapy (TPE-PDT). Prepared using an adapted sol-gel synthesis, the nanoplatforms integrated two silylated chromophores in their three-dimensional matrix to maximize non-radiative Förster resonance energy transfer from a high two-photon absorption fluorophore donor to a porphyrin derivative acceptor, leading to an enhanced generation of reactive oxygen species. Combinations of biodegradable and non-biodegradable bis(triethoxysilyl)alkoxysilanes were employed for the synthesis of the NPs, and the corresponding photophysical studies revealed high efficiency levels of FRET.

A novel, gelatinous, colony-forming, rod-shaped bacterial strain, designated IK01 was isolated from biofilms formed on the membrane surface of a sewage-treating membrane bioreactor (MBR). Strain IK01 produced gelatinous and almost transparent colonies at lower medium concentrations. Fourier transform infrared analysis of the gelatinous colony matrix showed that the matrix could be a biofilm substance.

The synthesis of differently substituted polyferrocenylmethylenes (PFM) via ring-opening transmetalation polymerization (ROTP) is reported. A number of novel, symmetrically and asymmetrically substituted carba[1]magnesocenophanes have been prepared, which were used as precursors and allowed investigations of the influence of different substitution patterns on the PFM polymer properties. The novel carba[1]magnesocenophanes have been fully characterized by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy, and structurally authenticated by single-crystal X-ray diffraction (SC-XRD).

This study encompasses the validation of a simple, rapid, and sensitive HPLC/UV method developed in accordance with the guidelines set by ICH Q2(R2) for obtaining the active pharmaceutical ingredient from the glycosaminoglycan family in topical formulations. Previous methods reported for analyzing glycosaminoglycans in semisolid formulations are relatively complex and time-consuming, involving extraction, purification, and derivatization. This developed analytical method allows for straightforward extraction of the active pharmaceutical ingredient from the matrix, enabling the direct injection of samples.
