In the present era of adhesive dentistry light-curing units are essential pieces of surgery equipment for everyday practice. The success and longevity of light-activated resin sealants, photo-cured restorations and orthodontic treatments are related to the efficacy of the light-curing process. Energy efficient blue LED lights are rapidly replacing their halogen lamp predecessors as the standard light source. Manufacturers are producing materials with different initiators and not all of these materials can be properly polymerized with blue LED lights.

Zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO NPs) with varying levels of nitrogen (N) doping were synthesized using a straightforward sol-gel approach. The morphology and microstructure of the N-doped ZnO NPs were examined through techniques such as SEM, XRD, photoluminescence, and Raman spectroscopy. The characterization revealed visible changes in the morphology and microstructure resulting from the incorporation of nitrogen into the ZnO lattice.

Factors Affecting Growth and Survival of in Onion Extracts and Onion Bulbs.

Foods

December 2024

Department of Food Science and Technology, Texas A&M AgriLife Research, College Station, TX 77843, USA.

This study investigated the survival and growth of in onion extracts and bulbs. The inhibition or retardation of growth by extracts of red, white, and yellow onions was tested against the onion germplasm and exposure to different light spectra during curing. Separately, survival of Newport was tested on red, white, and yellow onion bulbs on the external and internal onion layers with a syringe and needle.

Light is a vital regulator of photosynthesis, energy production, plant growth, and morphogenesis. Although these key physiological processes are well understood, the effects of light quality on the pigment content, oxidative stress, reactive oxygen species (ROS) production, antioxidant defense systems, and biomass yield of plants remain largely unexplored. In this study, we applied different light-emitting diode (LED) treatments, including white light, red light, blue light, and a red+blue (1:1) light combination, to evaluate the traits mentioned above in alfalfa ( L.

A Simple One-Pot Method for the Synthesis of BiFeO/BiFeO Heterojunction for High-Performance Photocatalytic Degradation Applications.

Int J Mol Sci

December 2024

Joint International Research Laboratory of Information Display and Visualization, School of Electronic Science and Engineering, Southeast University, Nanjing 210096, China.

This study presents a facile one-pot synthesis method to fabricate BiFeO-BiFeO-BiO heterojunction photocatalysts with controllable compositions and pure phases. Three different binary heterojunctions (BiFeO/BiFeO, BiFeO/BiO, and BiFeO/BiO) and a ternary BiFeO/BiFeO/BiO heterojunction were formed, all exhibiting significantly enhanced photocatalytic performance for the degradation of methylene blue (MB) and phenol under visible light irradiation, outperforming the individual compositions. Notably, the BiFeO/BiFeO heterojunction achieved the highest degradation efficiency (93.

This study employed a hydrothermal method to coat CuS onto PbS quantum dots loaded with ZnO, resulting in a core-shell-structured (PbS/ZnO)@CuS hetero-structured photocatalyst. The sulfide coating enhanced the photocatalyst's absorption in the near-infrared to visible light range and effectively reduced electron-hole (h) pair recombination during photocatalytic processes. Electron microscopy analysis confirmed the successful synthesis of this core-shell structure using polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP); however, the spatial hindrance effect of PVP led to a disordered arrangement of the CuS lattice, facilitating electron-hole recombination.
