Reversible ON/OFF nanoswitch for organocatalysis: mimicking the locking and unlocking operation of CaMKII.

Published: April 2012

Flip a switch: a nanoswitch uses chemical inputs to turn an organocatalytic Knoevenagel reaction on and off (see scheme: R=reactant, P=product). To stop catalysis the chemical input (pink and green) wraps around the inhibitory segment of the nanoswitch to effect release or unlocking of the switch. The process can run reversibly over three cycles without loss of activity.

Nanoscale photoswitchable proteins could facilitate precise spatiotemporal control of transmembrane communication and support studies in synthetic biology, neuroscience and bioelectronics. Here, through covalent modification of the α-haemolysin protein pore with arylazopyrazole photoswitches, we produced 'photopores' that transition between iontronic resistor and diode modes in response to irradiation at orthogonal wavelengths. In the diode mode, a low-leak OFF-state nanopore exhibits a reversible increase in unitary conductance of more than 20-fold upon irradiation at 365 nm.

A series of anionic poly(acrylamide--sodium acrylate)/poly(ethylene glycol), PAN/PEG, hybrids were conveniently synthesized free radical aqueous polymerization by integrating bentonite, kaolin, mica, graphene and silica, following a simple and eco-friendly crosslinking methodology. A comparative perspective was presented on how integrated nanofillers affect the physicochemical properties of hybrid gels depending on the differences in their structures. Among the five types of nanofillers, bentonite-integrated hybrid gel had the highest water absorbency, while graphene-integrated gel had the lowest.

750 V Breakdown in GaN Buffer on 200 mm SOI Substrates Using Reverse-Stepped Superlattice Layers.

Micromachines (Basel)

November 2024

Guangzhou Wide Bandgap Semiconductor Innovation Center, Guangzhou Institute of Technology, Xidian University, Guangzhou 510555, China.

In this work, we demonstrated the epitaxial growth of a gallium nitride (GaN) buffer structure on 200 mm SOI (silicon-on-insulator) substrates. This epitaxial layer is grown using a reversed stepped superlattice buffer (RSSL), which is composed of two superlattice (SL) layers with different Al component ratios stacked in reverse order. The upper layer, with a higher Al component ratio, introduces tensile stress instead of accumulative compressive stress and reduces the in situ curvature of the wafer, thereby achieving a well-controlled wafer bow ≤ ±50 µm for a 3.

Heavy metal contamination and pesticide residues pose significant threats to human health and ecosystems. Despite its broad applications, fluorescence imaging technology often struggles in complex ecological and biological environments due to disadvantages of background autofluorescence and low quantum yield. This study introduced a near-infrared (NIR) multifunctional "off-on-off" isophorone-based fluorescent bio-probe, DHB, characterized by a high fluorescence quantum yield (10.
