Since the very first proposition of photonic crystals, their influence on the dynamics of spontaneous emission has been of great interest. The radiation dynamics is described by an integration kernel which--in a spectral representation--comprises two equally important contributions: the Lamb shift and the radiative contribution to the linewidth. The latter is connected to the density of states via Fermi's golden rule. To our knowledge, we present the first spatially resolved measurement of the complete radiation dynamics in a photonic crystal and of its local density of states over a wide spectral range. To this end we study a single magnetic dipole situated in a photonic crystal with a band gap at microwave frequencies and find non-Markovian behavior in excellent agreement with ab initio calculations.

Purpose: Radiotherapy (RT) in the head and neck (HN) area causes a series of oral complications and the oral microbiota may play an important role in these complications. The aim of this systematic review was to explore alterations in the oral microbiota among individuals undergoing RT in the HN region.
Methods: A comprehensive search across six databases and grey literature was made.

In recent years, studies of surfaces at more realistic conditions has advanced significantly, leading to an increased understanding of surface dynamics under reaction conditions. The development has mainly been due to the development of new experimental techniques or new experimental approaches. Techniques such as High Pressure Scanning Tunneling/Force Microscopy (HPSTM/HPAFM), Ambient Pressure X-ray Photo emission Spectroscopy (APXPS), Surface X-Ray Diffraction (SXRD), Polarization-Modulation InfraRed Reflection Absorption Spectroscopy (PMIRRAS) and Planar Laser Induced Fluorescence (PLIF) at semi-realistic conditions has been used to study planar model catalysts or industrial materials under operating conditions.

To restore vision in the blind, advances in visual cortical prosthetics (VCPs) have offered high-channel-count electrical interfaces. Here, we design a 100-fiber optical bundle interface apposed to known feature-specific (color, shape, motion, and depth) functional columns that populate the visual cortex in humans, primates, and cats. Based on a non-viral optical stimulation method (INS, infrared neural stimulation; 1,875 nm), it can deliver dynamic patterns of stimulation, is non-penetrating and non-damaging to tissue, and is movable and removable.

Transplantation experiments conducted in high altitude ecosystems are rising as key strategy to examine the response of individual plant transplanted across distinct elevations. However, plant physiological and biochemical performance in response to changes in abiotic factors across different species and mountain ranges is still lacking. So in the present study, we have made an attempt to link the physiological performance with that of altitudinal gradient in Ladakh by transplanting Lepidium latifolium at four different altitudinal sites.

Metal ions are indispensable to life, as they can serve as essential enzyme cofactors to drive fundamental biochemical reactions, yet paradoxically, excess is highly toxic. Higher-order cells have evolved functionally distinct organelles that separate and coordinate sophisticated biochemical processes to maintain cellular homeostasis upon metal ion stimuli. Here, we uncover the remodeling of subcellular architecture and organellar interactome in yeast initiated by several metal ion stimulations, relying on near-native three-dimensional imaging, cryo-soft X-ray tomography.
