To determine the three-dimensional solution structure of the calcium bound S100P protein, the backbone and side chain resonance assignments of the S100P protein have been reported based on triple-resonance experiments using uniformly [(13)C, (15)N]-labeled calcium bound protein.

CD163, a macrophage-specific receptor, plays a critical role in scavenging hemoglobin released during hemolysis, protecting against oxidative effects of heme iron. In the bloodstream, hemoglobin is bound by haptoglobin, leading to its immediate endocytosis by CD163. While haptoglobin's structure and function are well understood, CD163's structure and its interaction with the haptoglobin-hemoglobin complex have remained elusive.

Titin is the third contractile filament in the sarcomere, and it plays a critical role in sarcomere integrity and both passive and active tension. Unlike the thick and thin filaments, which are polymers of myosin and actin, respectively, titin is a single protein that spans from Z-disk to M-line. The N2A region within titin has been identified as a signaling hub for the muscle and is shown to be involved in multiple interactions.

Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is a serious medical condition that causes a failure in the right heart. Two-pore channel 2 (TPC2) is upregulated in PAH, but its roles in PAH remain largely unknown. Our investigation aims at the mechanisms by which TPC2 regulates PAH development.

Calcium (Ca)-enhanced organic matter (OM) fouling of nanofiltration (NF) membranes leads to reduced flux during desalination and requires frequent cleaning. Fouling mechanisms are not fully understood, which limits the development of targeted fouling control methods. This study employed synchrotron-based X-ray fluorescence (XRF) and X-ray absorption near-edge structure (XANES) spectroscopy to quantify the spatial distribution and mass of Ca deposition as well as changes in the Ca coordination environment characteristic of specific fouling mechanisms, respectively.

Unlabelled: Diverse marine animals undergo a metamorphic larval-to-juvenile transition in response to surface-bound bacteria. Although this host-microbe interaction is critical to establishing and maintaining marine animal populations, the functional activity of bacterial products and how they activate the host's metamorphosis program has not yet been defined for any animal. The marine bacterium stimulates the metamorphosis of a tubeworm called by producing a molecular syringe called metamorphosis-associated contractile structures (MACs).
