The existence of weak solutions to the continuous coagulation equation with multiple fragmentation is shown for a class of unbounded coagulation and fragmentation kernels, the fragmentation kernel having possibly a singularity at the origin. This result extends previous ones where either boundedness of the coagulation kernel or no singularity at the origin for the fragmentation kernel was assumed.

Fusarium ear rot (FER) and Gibberella ear rot (GER) caused by Fusarium species are major diseases affecting maize production in Ethiopia. In addition to reducing quality and yield, these fungi can produce mycotoxins that contaminate maize kernels and, thereby, pose health hazards to humans and livestock. A survey was conducted in 10 administrative zones of Ethiopia within the major maize-growing regions of the country to identify the species of Fusarium associated with ear rot.

Plant roots are essential for water and nutrient uptake, as well as resistance to abiotic stresses. While measuring root systems under field conditions is labor-intensive, most quantitative trait loci (QTLs) related to root traits have been detected under artificial conditions. However, QTLs identified under artificial conditions may not always manifest the expected effects that are observed under field conditions.

Bounding Seed Loss from Isolated Habitat Patches.

Dispersal of propagules (seeds, spores) from a geographically isolated habitat into an uninhabitable matrix can play a decisive role in driving population dynamics. ODE and integrodifference models of these dynamics commonly feature a "dispersal success" parameter representing the average proportion of dispersing propagules that remain in viable habitat. While dispersal success can be estimated by empirical measurements or by integration of dispersal kernels, one may lack resources for fieldwork or details on dispersal kernels for numerical computation.

Research on the prediction of blasting fragmentation in open-pit coal mines based on KPCA-BAS-BP.

Article Synopsis
  • The blasting block size in open-pit mines is affected by various complex factors, making traditional prediction methods inadequate for ensuring safety.
  • A new prediction model is established using data from the Beskuduk open-pit coal mine, incorporating factors like rock strength and blast hole spacing, with kernel principal component analysis (KPCA) and the beetle antennae search algorithm (BAS) to optimize neural network parameters.
  • The resulting model demonstrates high accuracy in predicting blasting fragmentation, with a 1.77% average relative error, outperforming previous models and contributing valuable insights for practical applications in mining operations.

Matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization mass spectrometry imaging (MALDI-MSI) can provide spatially resolved molecular information about a sample. Recently, a postionization approach (MALDI-2) has been commercially integrated with MALDI-MSI, allowing for bettered sensitivity and consequent improved spatial resolution. While advantages of MALDI-2 have previously been established, we demonstrate here statistically increased in-source fragmentation (ISF) results from postionization with a commercial instrument.
