Plasma lipid levels are to a large extent determined by genetic factors. In its more extreme forms this is manifested as familial hyperlipidemias, which are an important cause of premature coronary heart disease. It has been demonstrated that rigorous treatment of familial forms reduces the burden of ischemic heart disease. Statins are among the most studied drugs in cardiovascular prevention; a number of large-scale clinical trials have demonstrated that statins substantially reduce cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in both primary and secondary prevention. The currently available evidence suggests that the clinical benefit is largely independent of the type of statin, but depends on the extent of LDL-C lowering. When the most potent statins are insufficient, LDL-C apheresis should be used.

Individuals with severe mental illness (SMI) have a shorter life expectancy compared to the general population, largely due to cardiovascular disease (CVD). In this report from the Fixed Dose Intervention Trial of New England Enhancing Survival in SMI Patients (FITNESS), we examined baseline CVD risk factors and their treatment in patients with SMI and second generation antipsychotic (SGA) use. FITNESS enrolled 204 participants with SMI and SGA use, but without documented history of CVD or diabetes mellitus, from several clinics in the Boston, Massachusetts, area between April 29, 2015, and September 26, 2019.

Maternal mortality rates in the US have been increasing steadily over the past decade, with rates significantly increased versus the rest of the developed world, despite the vast healthcare infrastructure. The purpose of this paper is to discuss key areas that need to be addressed within basic science, clinical, and community-based settings to help promote increased education, research, and awareness of specific pregnancy-associated changes that can occur during both healthy and complicated pregnancies. Through increased awareness, we can promote healthier pregnancies and not only help to reduce maternal mortality rates but also improve the long-term cardiovascular outcomes in mothers and their children.

Objectives: To assess the lung involvement in patients with Still's disease, an inflammatory disease assessing both children and adults. To exploit possible associated factors for parenchymal lung involvement in these patients.
Methods: A multicentre observational study was arranged assessing consecutive patients with Still's disease characterized by the lung involvement among those included in the AIDA (AutoInflammatory Disease Alliance) Network Still's Disease Registry.

Objectives: Heparin is given for anticoagulation during and after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. Our objective was to add to the limited data available on the incidence, management, and outcomes of suspected heparin-induced thrombocytopaenia after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy for chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension.
Methods: This retrospective single-centre study included consecutive patients with suspected heparin-induced thrombocytopaenia after pulmonary thromboendarterectomy done in 2005-2018.

Objectives: The ValveClamp system (Hanyu Medical Technology) is a novel transcatheter edge-to-edge repair (TEER) system designed for ease of operation; however, there is a lack of data on its application in secondary mitral regurgitation (SMR). The authors report the mid-term outcomes of TEER using the ValveClamp system in SMR.
Methods: The study prospectively analyzed consecutive severe SMR patients who underwent transapical ValveClamp implantation at 10 Chinese centers.
