Objective: Weight gain and obesity are of substantial importance for the development of insulin-resistance and type-2 diabetes mellitus. Fetuin-A, a liver-derived glycoprotein, may also play a role in these alterations. Several studies have demonstrated an association between fetuin-A and body weight which, however, was within a fairly small range at the border of overweight to obesity. The present study examines the relationship between fetuin-A and a wide range of BMI, together with basal insulin, and HOMA-IR. In addition, matched groups of non-diabetic patients and those with type-2 diabetes mellitus were compared.

Methods: We examined the relationship between fetuin-A and BMI, insulin, HOMA-IR, glucose and HbA1c in a cohort of 445 non-diabetic obese subjects and 150 obese patients with type-2-diabetes mellitus (DM2).

Results: In relation to quintiles of fetuin-A a significant increase of BMI, basal insulin and HOMA-IR was observed between the 1st and 2nd quintile with no further change thereafter. Correspondingly, fetuin-A levels increased significantly only between the 1st and 2nd quintile of BMI, insulin or HOMA-IR, respectively. When patients with type 2 diabetes were compared with non-diabetic subjects matched for BMI, insulin, and age median fetuin-A levels were not significantly different.

Conclusion: At the early stage of weight gain fetuin-A could be of relevance for the development of insulin resistance. For the further progressive resistance with increasing weight in the obesity range the present data do not support a role of fetuin-A. Similarly its contribution to the resistance of type-2 diabetes seems to be of minor importance.

Background: Obesity is a chronic disease associated with other associated medical problems, including atherogenic dyslipidemia. Metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS) has been shown to reduce long-term cardiovascular risk (CVR). Anti-ApoA-1 antibodies (AAA1) are independently associated with cardiovascular disease, which remains a major cause of death in individuals with obesity.

Background: Recent epidemiological studies have shown that diabetes can have negative effects on cognitive function, and insulin resistance (IR) acts as a key factor in this association. IR can impede glucose uptake in brain, leading to energy deficits and toxic protein accumulation which may cause cognitive decline. Type 3 diabetes mellitus (T3DM), or AD type of diabetes is caused due to impaired insulin signalling restricted to brain regions, resulting in memory decline.

Purpose: Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a frequent disorder among women. Exercise training has been known as an effective treatment for this disorder; however, there is small amount of evidence examining the optimal exercise programs. We evaluated the function of combined (COM) training on metabolic, hormonal parameters, and biomarkers of oxidative stress and inflammation in PCOS patients.

The present study aimed to determine the predictive power of the diabetic markers and metabolic syndrome factors in School-aged children for developing Type 2 DM. In this cross-sectional study, 1288 students aged 12-13 were recruited from public schools in the capital city of Sana'a. Anthropometric measurements and blood pressure were recorded and body mass index (BMI) was calculated.

Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is one of the most common endocrine and metabolic disorders . This study aimed to investigate the effects of high-intensity interval training (HIIT) on insulin resistance, oxidative stress, soleus muscle function, and myokine levels in a PCOS rat model. Female rats were assigned to four groups: Control, PCOS, PCOS+Exercise, and Exercise (n=15 each).
