Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) are the most common congenital anomalies, affecting between 4 and 75 per 1000 live births. Cardiovascular patches (CVPs) are frequently used as part of the surgical armamentarium to reconstruct cardiovascular structures to correct CHDs in pediatric patients. This review aims to evaluate the history of cardiovascular patches, currently available options, clinical applications, and important features of these patches.

Advances in imaging, pharmacological, and procedural technologies have rapidly expanded the care of pulmonary embolism. Earlier, more accurate identification and quantification has enhanced risk stratification across the spectrum of the disease process, with a number of clinical tools available to prognosticate outcomes and guide treatment. Direct oral anticoagulants have enabled a consistent and more convenient long-term therapeutic option, with a greater shift toward outpatient treatment for a select group of low-risk patients.

The 1- and 5-year patient and graft survival rates of pediatric kidney transplant recipients have improved considerably in recent years. Regardless of early success, kidney transplantation is challenged by suboptimal long-term allograft and patient survival. Many kidney transplants are lost due to immune (rejection) and nonimmune allograft injuries, and patient survival is limited from cardiovascular disease, infection, and malignancy.

These agents have been designed to maintain integrity and promote BBB repair.
