This study used structural equation modeling to examine the effect of Stratum III (i.e., general intelligence) and Stratum II (i.e., Comprehension-Knowledge, Fluid Reasoning, Short-Term Memory, Processing Speed, and Visual Processing) factors of the Cattell-Horn-Carroll (CHC) cognitive abilities, as operationalized by the Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children, Fourth Edition (WISC-IV; Wechsler, 2003a) subtests, on Quantitative Knowledge, as operationalized by the Wechsler Individual Achievement Test, Second Edition (WIAT-II; Wechsler, 2002) subtests. Participants came from the WISC-IV/WIAT-II linking sample (n=550). We compared models that predicted Quantitative Knowledge using only Stratum III factors, only Stratum II factors, and both Stratum III and Stratum II factors. Results indicated that the model with only the Stratum III factor predicting Quantitative Knowledge best fit the data.

Background: Psoriasis is a chronic disease with a prevalence of 3% in the general population. The high prevalence of psoriasis has prompted the study of its comorbidities in recent decades. However, no studies have ever analyzed comorbidity patterns including all chronic diseases in psoriatic patients.

Research Question: Does endometrial preparation using a natural cycle lead to higher live birth rates (LBR) in single euploid frozen embryo transfers (FET) compared with programmed cycles, for women who are normal weight, overweight and obese.
Design: Retrospective study of 845 single euploid FETs from 688 couples. Patients were stratified by body mass index (BMI) into normal weight, overweight and obesity class I/II categories.

Dissolving microneedle array patches (DMAP) enable efficient and painless delivery of therapeutic molecules across the stratum corneum and into the upper layers of the skin. Furthermore, this delivery strategy can be combined with the sustained release of nanoparticles to enhance the therapeutic potential in a wide variety of pathological scenarios. Among the different types of nanoparticles that can be included in microneedle formulations, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) of tunable pore sizes constitute a promising tool as drug delivery systems for cargos of a wide range of molecular weights.

Background: A 2013 meta-analysis observed a protective association between overweight BMI (versus normal BMI) and all-cause mortality that was particularly strong in people aged ≥65. Estimates informing this meta-analysis were highly heterogeneous, and critics raised insufficient or inappropriate confounder adjustment in many studies as an explanation for the protective summary association. Using this topic as an example, we demonstrate a novel approach for external adjustment of individual studies for a uniform and sufficient confounder set before meta-analysis.

Objective: Existing methods to evaluate skin care products suffer limitations. This is the case for ex vivo skin explants, a first-choice 3D model. While essential to analyse mid- to long-term biological effects, this classical model hinders assessing microrelief variations.
