Typical daylight extends from blue (morning sky) to orangey red (evening sky) and is represented mathematically as the Daylight Locus in color space. In this study, we investigate the impact of this daylight variation on human color vision. Thirty-eight color normal human observers performed an asymmetric color match in the near peripheral visual field. Unique hues were identified using a naming paradigm. The observers' performance for matching was almost perfectly coincident with the Daylight Locus but declined markedly in other regions. Interobserver variability reached a conspicuous minimum adjacent to the Daylight Locus and was maximal in the red and yellowish-green regions. In the naming task, unique blue and yellow were virtually coincident with the Daylight Locus. The results suggest that the mechanisms of color perception mediated by the phylogenetically older (blue-yellow) color pathway have been strongly influenced by the different phases of daylight.

The hop phenological cycle was described in subtropical condition of Brazil showing that flowering can happen at any time of year and this was related to developmental molecular pathways. Hops are traditionally produced in temperate regions, as it was believed that vernalization was necessary for flowering. Light has many non-image-forming functions including modulation of pupil size and stimulation of alertness and cognition. Part of these non-image-forming effects may be mediated by the brainstem locus coeruleus. The processing of sensory inputs can be associated with a transient pupil dilation that is likely driven in part by the phasic activity of the locus coeruleus.

Color constancy is the perceptual stability of surface colors under temporal changes in the illumination spectrum. The illumination discrimination task (IDT) reveals worse discrimination for "bluer" illumination changes in normal-trichromatic observers (changes towards cooler color temperatures on the daylight chromaticity locus), indicating greater stability of scene colors or better color constancy, compared with illumination changes in other chromatic directions. Here, we compare the performance of individuals with X-linked color-vision deficiencies (CVDs) to normal trichromats on the IDT performed in an immersive setting with a real scene illuminated by spectrally tunable LED lamps.
