Abstract: In cultured rat neocortical interneurons, we have studied the effect of long-term application of NMDA or AMPA on the surface density of the NMDA (GluN) receptor subunits GluN1 and GluN2B. Stimulation of Ca(2+) -permeable AMPA (GluA) receptors located on the interneurons decreased the response of GluN receptors. The reduction was caused by a decrease in the surface density of GluN1/GluN2B subunits. In contrast, stimulation of GluN receptors located on the interneurons enhanced the surface density of GluN1/GluN2B subunits. Both effects could be induced by network activation.

Planar hexacoordination is an extremely uncommon phenomenon for the atoms that belong to the main group. Within this article, we have analyzed the potential energy surfaces (PES) of ABeCB (A = N, P, As, Sb, and Bi) clusters in neutral, monocationic, monoanionic, dicationic, and dianionic states using density functional theory (DFT). Among which PBeCB, PBeCB, AsBeCB, AsBeCB, SbBeCB, and BiBeCB clusters contain a planar hexacoordinate boron (phB) atom in the global minimum energy structures with symmetry.

Nickel-rich NCM cathode materials promise lithium-ion batteries with a high energy density. However, an increased Ni fraction in the cathode leads to complex phase transformations with electrode-electrolyte side reactions, which cause rapid capacity fading. Here, we show that an initial formation cycle at 0.

Quantifying the number of active sites is a crucial aspect in the performance evaluation of single metal-atom electrocatalysts. A possible realization is using adsorbing gas molecules that selectively bind to the single-atom transition metal and then probing their surface density using spectroscopic tools. Herein, using in situ X-ray photoelectron (XPS) and near edge X-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS) spectroscopy, we detect adsorbed CO gas molecules on a FeNC oxygen reduction single atom catalyst.

Background: We have developed a technology for isolating extracellular vesicles (EVs) released from the central nervous system present in plasma.
Method: Initially, we differentiated induced pluripotent stem cells (iPS) into neurons to examine the membrane surface molecules of neuron-derived EVs in culture media. Our analysis revealed a specific interest in neuron-specific APLP1.
Background: Preclinical investigations in Alzheimer's disease (AD) have highlighted the efficacy of gamma sensory stimulation in mitigating AD-related pathologies. Cognito Therapeutics, Inc. (Cambridge, MA) has designed the Sensory Stimulation System for safe at-home usage, to induce EEG-confirmed gamma oscillations as a potential treatment for AD.
