Background: Eugenol, the main constituent of clove oil possesses a number of medicinal activities. To enhance the medicinal property, structural modification is required. On the other hand, bismuth nitrate pentahydrate has been established as an excellent eco-friendly nitrating agent for several classes of organic compounds.
Results: Bismuth nitrate pentahydrate-induced nitration of eugenol has been investigated very thoroughly. Twenty five different conditions have been studied. The microwave-induced solvent-free reaction has been identified as the best condition.
Conclusions: Spectral analyses confirm that 5-nitroeugenol is the sole product in all the cases. No oxidized or isomerized product could be detected.

An efficient oxidation of stilbenes to α-diketones co-catalyzed by bismuth nitrate and iodine is reported. The utilization of molecular oxygen as a terminal oxidant and water as the reaction solvent provides a low-cost and environmentally friendly approach to preparing the α-diketone derivatives from readily available stilbenes. Isotope labeling experiments suggest that the two oxygen atoms of the α- diketone products mainly originate from water.

Background The two-dimensional MXene, known as titanium carbide (Ti₃C₂), is characterized by its substantial interlayer spacing, extensive surface area, hydrophilic nature, exceptional thermal stability, and outstanding electrical conductivity. These distinctive attributes render Ti₃C₂ an ideal candidate for detecting target analytes and immobilizing biomolecules. Bismuth oxide (Bi₂O₃), an essential compound of bismuth, frequently acts as a foundational element in bismuth chemistry.

The widespread environmental contamination resulting from the misuse of tetracycline antibiotics (TCs) has garnered significant attention and study by scholars. Photocatalytic technology is one of the environmentally friendly advanced oxidation processes (AOPs) that can effectively solve the problem of residue of TCs in the water environment. This study involved the synthesis of the heterogeneous magnetic photocatalytic material of CoFeO/NaBiO via the solvothermal method, and it was characterized using different characterization techniques.

A nontoxic bismuth-promoted multicomponent synthesis of 5-aminotetrazoles and bistetrazoles is reported. The reaction of phenyl isothiocyanate, NaN, and amine (primary aliphatic, aromatic, and aliphatic diamine) promoted by Bi(NO)·5HO under microwave heating affords good yields, short reaction times, simple workup, and purification without column chromatography. A set of diagnostic H NMR signals was identified as a guide for quickly elucidating the exclusive (or main) regioisomer formed, with the stronger electron donor group located at heterocyclic nitrogen 1.
