Caryophyllidean cestodes (Platyhelminthes) represent an unusual group of tapeworms lacking serially repeated body parts that potentially diverged from the common ancestor of the Eucestoda prior to the evolution of segmentation. Here we evaluate the utility of two nuclear and two mitochondrial molecular markers (ssrDNA and lsrDNA, nad3 and cox1) for use in circumscribing generic boundaries and estimating interrelationships in the group. We show that these commonly employed markers do not contain sufficient signal to infer well-supported phylogenetic estimates due to substitution saturation. Moreover, we detected multiple trnK+nad3+trnS+trnW+cox1 haplotypes within individuals, indicating a history of gene exchange between the mitochondrial and nuclear genomes. The presence of such nuclear paralogs (i.e. numts), to our knowledge described here in cestodes for the first time, together with the results of phylogenetic, saturation and split-decomposition analyses all suggest that finding informative markers for estimating caryophyllidean evolution is unusually problematic in comparison to other major lineages of tapeworms.

Calcite (CaCO), a common component of calcium-based fertilizers, has been recognized for its effectiveness as a cadmium (Cd) immobilization agent in the solidification/stabilization (S/S) method. This strategy is a widely used chemical remediation technique aimed at reducing the bioavailability and toxicity of Cd in contaminated soils. This study comprehensively evaluated the potential of calcite for Cd remediation through geochemical analyses, including adsorption isotherms, saturation index, ion concentration changes, and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis.

Objective: This study aims to compare the recovery profiles of remimazolam combined with flumazenil against those of propofol in patients undergoing painless surgical abortion, focusing on psychomotor function and emergence. Rapid recovery and restoration of psychomotor function are critical for enhancing patient safety and satisfaction in outpatient procedures like surgical abortion.
Methods: A total of 110 patients scheduled for surgical abortion were randomly assigned to either the remimazolam group (Group R) or the propofol group (Group P) in a 1:1 ratio.

Introduction: Despite the established effectiveness and relatively widespread availability of Medications for Opioid Use Disorder, individuals seeking treatment frequently encounter various structural and social barriers, including costs of treatment. This study aimed to understand the financial barriers that affect treatment continuation in individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD).
Methods: In this qualitative study, seven semi-structured in-depth focus group interviews were conducted among 28 participants in treatment for OUD.

Background: Iron deficiency anemia in the perioperative setting is treated predominantly with intravenous iron formulation, of which ferric carboxymaltose may induce hypophosphatemia by modulating fibroblast growth factor 23.
Methods: In this single-center, prospective, randomized, double-blind trial, we consented 92 adult patients scheduled for elective major abdominal or thoracic surgery. These patients either had isolated iron deficiency (plasma ferritin <100 ng/mL or transferrin saturation < 20 %) or iron deficiency anemia (hemoglobin (Hb) 100-130 g/L with plasma ferritin <100 ng/mL or transferrin saturation < 20 %).
