Four flavone C-glycosides, isoorientin (1), orientin (2), vitexin (3), and isovitexin (4), were isolated from the neotropical blueberry of Anthopterus wardii, a so-called "superfruit", using antioxidant activity-guided fractionation. A dose-response relationship of compounds 1-4 was determined for their anti-inflammatory activity against interleukin-8 (IL-8) and for the inhibition of matrix metalloproteinase-1 (MMP-1) expression, an inflammatory marker for chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. The four flavone C-glycosides exhibited inhibitory activity against IL-8 production and MMP-1 expression, with compounds 1, 3, and 4 having the most potent inhibitory activities in both assays at 100 μg/ml. The structures of compounds 1-4 were determined by spectroscopic methods. These flavone C-glycosides are reported for the first time in the Anthopterus genus.

Flavonoids have been documented to have good antioxidant activities in vitro. In recent years, reports on the antioxidant activities of flavone glycosides, a subclass of flavonoids, have attracted great attention. Despite the wealth of information on this subject, the correlation between structure and function is not well understood.

In this study, a practicably complementary size exclusion chromatography and reversed-phase liquid chromatography method was constructed and applied to efficiently separate and purify structural analogs or isomers from natural products. First, a ternary styrene-divinylbenzene matrix CHP20P medium-pressure elution system was applied for Ligustrum qianluoenenst leaf crude sample pretreatment, with a recovery of 91.2 %, and 13.

Tea contains a variety of flavone -glycosides, which are important compounds that distinguish tea cultivars and tea categories. However, the biosynthesis pathway of flavone -glycosides in tea plant remains unknown, and the key enzymes involved have not been characterized. In this study, a liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry method to determine 9 flavone -glycosides was developed, and the accumulation patterns of 9 flavone -glycosides in tea plants were examined first.

Phosphodiesterase-5 (PDE5) is a homodimeric enzyme that specifically targets cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), that mediates many downstream effects such as vasodilation, neurotransmission, and calcium homeostasis. Considering the functions of cGMP, inhibition of PDE5 has been established to have several therapeutic effects in disease conditions such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases and Alzheimer's disease. Consequently, many PDE5 inhibitors were developed but with severe adverse effects such as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), priapism, etc.

Several Pelargonium species are cultivated mainly to produce essential oils used in perfume industry and for ornamental purposes. Although the chemical composition and biological activities of their essential oils were extensively investigated, there is limited information about the chemical composition of their non-volatile constituents. In this study, we report an Ultra-Performance Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (UPLC-MS)-based metabolomics approach for the annotation and analysis of various metabolites in three species; P.
