The sensomotor brain cortex of 30-day ratlings born by preliminary neurosensitized females, was studied. The studies demonstrated retardation in the development of the brain cortex in the progeny. Electon microscopic examinations detected certain features in the structure of cellular organella, as well as membrane formations in the nuclei of the cortical neurons. These changes are considered as an expression of a lowered level of neuron functioning.

In the present study, co-parental exposure to polystyrene nanoplastics (PS-NPs) elicits profound teratological impacts, including skeletal and visceral malformations, post-natal effects on neonatal growth and neurobehavioral development in F1 progeny. A comprehensive investigation was conducted on Swiss albino mice fetuses, neonates (PND 1-21) and adult mice offsprings (PND 60) following parental exposure during spermatogenesis and oogenesis period, as well as continued maternal exposure during gestation and weaning. The parental mice were administered PS-NPs via oral gavage at low dose (0.

Schizophrenia is a kind of neurodevelopmental mental disorder in which patients begin to experience changes early in their development, typically manifesting around or after puberty and has a fluctuating course. Environmental disturbances during adolescence may be a risk factor for schizophrenia-like deficits. As a better treatment option, preventive intervention prior to schizophrenia may be more beneficial than direct treatment.

Article Synopsis
  • Excitatory cortical neurons are derived from cortical radial glial cells (RGCs), with early beliefs suggesting they originated directly from these cells in an inside-out manner.
  • The concept of indirect neurogenesis emerged, highlighting that intermediate neuronal progenitors (INPs) can also generate neurons, complicating the original direct neurogenesis theory.
  • Research using transgenic mice showed that both neurogenesis modes produce similar types of neurons in a coordinated sequence, with indirect neurogenesis playing a significant role in generating diverse neuron types, particularly in deeper cortical layers.

Prenatal exposure to low doses of benzophenone-3 elicits disruption of cortical vasculature in fetuses through perturbations in Wnt/β-catenin signaling correlating with depression-like behavior in offspring mice.

Benzophenone-3 (BP-3), commonly used in personal care products, is routinely detected in environmental and human matrices. Evidence delineates a correlation between gestational BP-3 exposure and emotional and social disorders in children and adolescents. However, sensitive target cells and the mode of action underlying the early responses to environmentally relevant level of BP-3 exposure remain unclear.

Article Synopsis
  • Early social isolation (SI) in fathers leads to social memory issues and anxiety in their offspring, shown in young adult mice.
  • The study found that the F1 generation experiences worsened social memory and myelin deficits in the medial prefrontal cortex after a 2-week period of SI.
  • Alterations in the expression of miR-124, which affects myelin development, suggest that epigenetic changes in the sperm of isolated fathers impact their offspring's social behaviors and brain development.
