Tamoxifen (TAM) is an antiestrogen that advances sexual puberty in cockerels, turkey toms, and Muscovy drakes. The effect of TAM on semen-fertilization capacity in White Leghorn (WL) male chicks was assayed in the present study. Sixty, 2-wk-old, male chicks were divided into two equal groups. The chicks from one group were injected im with 1 mg of TAM per kg of BW every other day; those from the second group were vehicle-treated (with corn oil) and served as controls. Each chick was paired with a virgin, WL laying hen. When semen was produced, the paired female was inseminated twice a week. The results revealed that TAM administration caused the early production of fertile semen, which resulted in the first normal descendants as early as 8 wk of age and brought about 100% of parenthood by the age of 88 days.

Calcium (Ca) is necessary for bone health and metabolic functions in poultry, however, the extent to which it can be utilized varies among feed ingredients. The goal of this study was to determine the apparent ileal digestibility (AID) and standardized ileal digestibility (SID) of calcium in wheat and soybean meal (SBM) in young quail chicks using a direct method. Three dietary treatments were used in the experiment: a calcium-free basal diet to determine endogenous calcium losses, and two diets with either wheat or SBM as the primary calcium sources.

This study aimed to compare the effects of dietary supplementation of bacteriophage (BP) and acidifiers on performance, meat quality, morphology, and intestinal microbiota in chickens challenged and unchallenged with Salmonella enteritidis (SE) and also to investigate the possibility of replacing them in the diet with antibiotics. A total of 1760 male Ross (308) chicks were randomly assigned to 11 dietary treatments (8 pens/with 20 male chickens in each).
