LN18178 is a standardized, synergistic combination of fruit rind and seed extracts, which has been reported to increase serum testosterone levels in young and aging males. The present 84-day randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study assessed the efficacy of LN18178 on the sexual function of aging male volunteers (age: 40-70 years; serum total testosterone: ≥ 300 ng/dL). The subjects with mild to moderate erectile dysfunction [5-item version of the International Index of Erectile Function (IIEF-5) scores 17-25] and low sexual desire (score < 3 on items 11 and 12 of IIEF) participated in this investigation.

This pilot dose-escalation study evaluated the absorption and metabolism of a novel fasting mimetic formulation containing spermidine, nicotinamide, palmitoylethanolamide (PEA), and oleoylethanolamide (OEA) taken as oral supplements in young adults. Five healthy men consumed a standardized breakfast, followed by control (wheat flour) or low, medium, or high doses of supplements containing spermidine, nicotinamide, PEA, and OEA 2 hours later. Blood was drawn at 0, 1, 2, and 4 hours after the supplement (2, 3, 4, and 6 hours postprandial).

To improve the interpretation and utilisation of blood lipids, ketones and acylcarnitine concentrations as biomarkers in clinical assessments, more information is needed on their dynamic alterations in response to dietary intake and fasting. The aim of this intervention study was to characterise the changes in serum lipid, ketone and acylcarnitine concentrations 24 h after a standardised breakfast meal. Thirty-four healthy subjects (eighteen males and sixteen females) aged 20-30 years were served a breakfast meal (∼500 kcal, 36 E% fat, 46 E% carbohydrates, 16 E% protein, 2E% fibre), after which they consumed only water for 24 h.

Aims: Abiraterone treatment requires regular drug intake under fasting conditions due to pronounced food effect, which may impact patient adherence. The aim of this prospective study was to evaluate adherence to abiraterone treatment in patients with prostate cancer. To achieve this aim, an abiraterone population pharmacokinetic model was developed and patients' adherence has been estimated by comparison of measured levels of abiraterone with population model-based simulations.

Fibroblast growth factor-23 (FGF23) is a phosphaturic hormone secreted by osteocytes in response to dietary phosphate intake. An increase in FGF23 level is an indicator of excess phosphate intake relative to the residual nephron number. Therefore, avoiding excessive phosphate intake and inhibiting the elevation of serum FGF23 levels are important to preserve the number of functional nephrons.
